The Eighth Sunday after Pentecost
Garden Stroll Sunday
July 18, 2021
At this time we are offering one worship Service at 10:30 from the St. Mark's Sanctuary through our Facebook page and YouTube Channel.
A copy of the Bulletin may be found on our website, in the button below
or on the Facebook page.

This Service will be also available in person and preregistration is no longer required on line.
Garden Stroll This Sunday
Following the 10:30 Service, Marie McKendall, Chair of the Garden Ministry, will lead a stroll through the St. Mary's Garden. She will explain the reasons for the specific plants, flowers and saplings. Two new teak benches were donated and are now in the Garden. Marie will also point out the St. Mary's Memorial Garden which is where Kip Taylor, Jackie's son, and Roger Faber, have been interred.
Come and worship and then spend time in the lovely St. Mary's Garden this Sunday.
Sunday Children's Opportunities
Beginning this Sunday, July 18 during the 10:30 Service, opportunities for children will resume in the Lower Level of the Parish House. Please plan to be with us, parishioners of all ages! For more information and to volunteer to be of assistance, please, contact Laura Kozminski, Director of Children's Formation at laurakozminski@gmail.com
Backpacks for Children

It’s hard to believe that its already time to start getting ready for school and stores are stocking their shelves with supplies. But not every child in our community will have a new backpack filled with paper and brand new crayons. St. Mark’s will once again be collecting backpacks and school supplies for children in need in grades K-6. For the next four Sundays, we will be collecting as many new backpacks and school supplies as we can. We will bless them on August 1 and deliver them on the following week. Please link below for options for how you are able to help.
Social Hour Hosts
Weekly, we have social hours following our worship Service. We are very much in needed of ministries or small groups of individuals to host the Social Hours. We encourage all ministries to choose a Sunday and to host the Social Hour as a way of highlighting the ministry as well as serving the worshipping community. A reminder that we are reimbursed for the cost of the goodies for the Social Hour up to $75. ‘Lavish spreads’ are lovely but not necessary. Please, consider signing up to be of service and for which all present will be most grateful.  A sign up sheet is located on the Welcome desk.
Weekday Prayers and Worship
Due to schedules for the summer, Tuesday Noon Prayer will be suspended through the end of the summer and resume on Tuesday, Sept. 14. Wednesday Eucharist in-person and live-streamed will continue throughout the summer. Please, continue to join Compline at 8:00 on Facebook on Mondays and Thursdays. Blessings and thanks.
Episcopal 101
Please, consider joining in learning more about the Episcopal Tradition in a face-paced session on Wednesday July 28. This session will last from 6:30 p.m.- 8:00 p.m. and will be informative as well as answer any questions you might have about why we do what we do at St. Mark's.  A sign-up sheet is at the Welcome Table of the Parish House with more information or call the Parish Office to have your name added to the list. ~ Christian+
Protocols at St. Mark's as of July 4, 2021
Given the recent promulgation of Phase III of the dioceses of Michigan guidelines, we will begin placing the Eucharist directly in the hands of parishioners and visitors on Sunday, July 4. Eucharistic Ministers will sanitize before and after distributing the Sacrament. We will return to using the Communion Rail on that date as well. Sanitizing protocols for everyone entering the Parish House and Sanctuary will remain in place as before. Masks will no longer be required of those who have been fully vaccinated and recommended for those who are not vaccinated. Also as of July 4, two sections of the Sanctuary will remain sectioned off for those who would be more comfortable socially distanced from others. The pattern for movement to and from the Communion Rail will remain in place which seems to be working very well thanks to the Ushers of the Parish. Those who feel more comfortable socially distanced will be encouraged to remain distanced from others even at the Communion Rail. Those receiving the Sacrament can kneel or remain standing for the reception of the Sacrament. ~ Christian+
Diocesan Confirmation and Reception Service
Volunteers are needed as we host the Diocesan Confirmation and Reception Service on Tuesday, July 20, at 7:00 p.m. If you can assist in any way to help meet and greet, serve on the altar and offer hospitality to our guests, we would be most grateful. Please, see Fr. Christian.
Save the dates for day camp! July 28 and July 29
Camp Chickagami, an ACA Accredited Family Camping Center of The Episcopal Diocese of Eastern Michigan, is offering traveling day camps this summer. They will be at St. Mark's, Wednesday, July 28-Thursday, July 29, offering a day camp from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. The suggested age range for campers is upcoming 3rd-8th graders, however friends from 1st-2nd grades are certainly welcome, too. Early drop-off, beginning at 9 a m., and late pick-up, until 5 p.m., will be offered. Lunch and snacks will be provided.

Please fill out the registration below for each child attending. A suggested donation of $25 per child, for those able to do so, will help support this offering from Camp Chick. Checks should be made payable to St. Mark's Episcopal Church with "Camp Chick Day Camp" in the memo line. Please send completed forms and donations to St. Mark's at 134 N. Division Ave, Grand Rapids, Mi, 49503 by July 21. Please send any questions to our Director of Youth Ministries, Jeff Brown, at jeffatgrey@gmail.com. Jeff will be on-site for the duration of camp, along with camp staff and additional volunteers.

Every precaution will be taken according to state, diocesan, and CDC requirements and recommendations at the time of the sessions to keep all of our campers, staff, and families safe.

Celebration Sunday, September 12, and Return to Two Services
In consultation with staff and other ministries at St. Mark's, we will return to two Services on Sundays on Celebration Sunday on Sept. 12. Given the number attending so far on Sundays and requirements for cleaning and sanitizing, we determined that we will continue with the 10:30 Service only for the summer months. We also discussed a schedule change for the summer Sunday worship. We determined that the Service will remain at 10:30 to avoid confusion with a time change and the various advertising changes which would have to be considered. Please, join us. Come as you are and worship in air-conditioned splendor no matter the temps outside! Also, join us for the Ada Park Service with picnic opportunities beginning at 5:00 p.m. on August 22. Blessings and thanks!
Mid Week Eucharist
Will be available to you in person as well as through Facebook live. Please join us in our Sanctuary at 12 noon.
