Walking to Jerusalem Update - Week 8
Our Lenten Journey has broadened our understanding of other cultures and other people. As you walk, think about the people and places you are passing, who they are, to what they aspire, to whom they pray. Remember them in your prayers. Having completed the El Camino Santiago, with the French extension, we have decided to create our own El Camino Marty Luther! From Gottigen we traveled to Eisleben (birthplace of Luther), then to Wittenberg. Luther was Professor of Moral Theology at the University of Wittenberg and this is where he wrote the famous Disputation on the Power of Indulgences. Then on to Eisenach, town closest to Wartburg Castle where Luther was hidden following the Diet of Worms trial and where he translated the bible into German. Finally on to Worms. We spent one night in the Wartburg Castle and feasted on wild boar and great local beer. Now we need to tackle the Alps! We headed south through Zurich, Milan (enjoying the wines of Tuscany) Florence and Assisi and at the week's end, Rome. We arrived with enough time to visit the Vatican, a couple of art galleries, Palatine Hill and the Colosseum. We enjoyed great wine, great food, interesting conversation, and the locals are, well, very Italian! We have now traveled 9459 miles from Tacoma.
