Global Stories Event

You are invited to a  "Global Stories" event on April 23. The Global Mission Committee of our ELCA Southwestern Washington Synod is hosting a Global Stories event  Saturday April 23  at The Lutheran Church of The Good Shepherd, 1601 North St SE, Olympia. The doors open at  9:00 am  for registration and coffee. A suggested donation of $15.00 includes lunch. The program, which begins at  10:00 am , will feature Keynote speaker Bishop Ernst Gamxamub, head of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in the Republic of Namibia, a companion to our synod.

Namibia achieved its independence from the apartheid regime in South Africa in 1990. Bishop Ernst will talk about the journey of the Lutheran churches there during the past 25 years, as well as how he sees God at work in the years to come.

Also featured will be a representative from Lutheran Community Services Northwest, talking about how they are partnering with Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Services in to resettle the recent crush of refugees from Latin America and the Middle East, and how churches in our area can help. It promises to be an interesting day.

Peace Community Benefit Dinner

You are cordially invited to join Don and Barb Haueisen on  May 14 th   at the annual  Peace Community Center benefit dinner,  Learners to Leaders , to be held at PLU. Peace Community Center is one of the vital ministries in which St. Mark's participates. They also organize evening meals for area residents in April and October. Tickets for the dinner are available at peacecommunitycenter.org. For those attending the dinner for the first time, please be our guest and learn about the important work done by PCC. In either case, be a part of a St. Mark's table supporting this ministry. Garden Plots Available at Grace Baptist Community Garden:

With Spring making an appearance this week, you might be thinking about growing your own fresh fruit and vegetables.  At Grace Baptist Community Garden, we have a few plots left for the 2016 season.  The raised beds are 20' x 5' and ready for planting.  The fee for the year is $30 to cover water and maintenance expenses.   Tagro (soil amendment) is available on site.  The garden is located behind our church at 2507 N. Vassault.   For more information or to apply for a plot, call  253-752-6643 or email us at  gracebaptist@harbornet.com

Interest Survey: Refugee Resettlement and Support

The Peace & Justice Committee hosted three conversations last fall and winter about the Syrian migrant/refugee crisis, opportunities to assist Lutheran Social Services with refugees coming to our area, as well as the possibility of helping to resettle a specific refugee family (which may or may not be from Syria).    Help us assess the extent of interest in our congregation for a new ministry with refugees in our community this coming year.   Please complete both the short-term ministry ( click here) needs survey and the long-term ministry needs survey ( click here).    Each takes about two minutes to complete.

Questions?  Kathleen Campbell at  regkathleen@msn.com or  253.820.3297.   There will also be paper surveys in the narthex before and after worship on Sundays in April.

We Welcome Your Plans for Giving!

It is not too late to submit your P lans for Giving for the  2016-2017 fiscal year. This is great progress, and we say "THANK YOU!"  to all who have expressed gratitude to God and commitment to mission in this way. In 2015, over 190 household submitted Plans for Giving, so we are on our way to surpassing that, which is important since our congregation and our mission have grown since then. If we haven't heard from you yet, please bring your Plan for Giving in 2016-2017 to worship this Sunday, or go to online today and complete one by clicking this link.  I f you have misplaced your Plan for Giving card, we have extra ones in the sanctuary and narthex at church and in the main office. We can also mail a new one to you, if you prefer.  Thanks!!

Connect and Care TimeBank

Recent Exchanges, Members helping each other:
There has been  busy activity recently for TimeBank members. Several people have volunteered in the Special Time Fund and have joined together to assist in weeding and garden cleanup. Working together,  they not only provided much needed help, but also formed new friendship bonds. In another instance, two members who had attended the CCTB Focus Group found out about some mutual needs. As a result,  an attic got cleaned out, reorganized and old items were discarded and recycled.  Here again, a new friendship has also been formed.

New Members:
It was great to welcome six new members to the TimeBank in March. Soon they will be posting their offers and requests, adding to the richness of activity within the TimeBank.

Training Dates
There are two more opportunities to take part in training;  Wednesday, April 6 at 6:00  and  Saturday, May 14 at 10:00 .
Membership fee will remain at $10 per year through May.
Sign up now.  Sign up sheets are in Narthex or contact Patty Reinkensmeyer,  253 857-7977 pardcr@comcast.net .
