Fall Sunday School Event, September 11th

Children's Faith Formation Fall Sunday school is set to begin with an intergenerational focus on September 11 following our Day of Service at L'Arche on September 10 and continuing emphasis on God's creative activity in nature.    Teachers will be installed and blessed; families will receive information on the coming Sunday school year; and kids will receive a blessing as they begin a new school year.  Regular classes begin on September 18.  Registration for Sunday school helps us keep information up to date on your child--forms are available each Sunday in the Narthex and on-line this week.  Are you interested in teaching?  There is room for you on one of our teaching teams and we would love to have you consider this important ministry with children!  Teachers ARE needed.  See the display table in the Narthex on Sundays or talk with/e-mail Char Leone (

SMLC Financial Update - July 2016

The first month of our new fiscal year went well. Income was $1,511 ahead of budget, while expenses were $4,116 under budget. We ended with income greater than expenses by $886 versus a projected shortfall of $4,741,
Each major spending category was within or under budget for the month. The most notable difference versus budget was in Staff. There were many moving pieces during July, with transitions in office management, hospitality, and custodial positions. We would be more than happy to provide details if you'd like them. Please feel free to direct any questions to Jen Droubay or Mike McKeller at the church office (253-752-4966). Thank you for your faithful generosity.

Family Housing Network returning Sept. 17-24!

Beginning Saturday, September 17, St. Mark's will again host up to five homeless families with children. This is our fourth year as part of the Family Housing Network. Volunteers are needed to bring meals, prepare bedrooms, and host the families during the evening and overnight. See the signup table in the narthex!

Music on the Lawn, Thank You!
With much gratitude we thank everyone who participated and attended Saturday's Music on the Lawn event!  It was a lovely day filled with wonderful music from both the children and adults in our congregation.  A special thank you to Suzy and Bob Reynolds for the use of their home and to Cooper Sherry for organizing the event.

LWR: "We Need School Kits"

It's that time! With school supplies at their lowest prices of the year, our annual drive to collect school supplies for LWR School Kits is August 21-September 18 (all items needed).  Our goal is to pack 100 school kits with the Youth in October.  In 2015, LWR delivered a total of 152,585 school kits around the Globe!  Imagine having to choose between a meal or purchasing a notebook. Project Promise School Kits are sent to places where even the few required school supplies may be more than a family can afford. Thank you for helping children reach their full potential!

Please drop-off supplies in the Narthex and look for updates on needs as we start collecting!

Rummage Sale Thank-You

Thank you to all who supported Empowering Life's rummage sale at Peninsula Lutheran in Gig Harbor last week.  It is such a delight to have so much support for our Southwestern Washington mission to women in the state prisons and their families.  Besides raising enough funds to support a month of Lutheran pastoral care for the women, the rummage sale is a wonderful service not only to the truly needy families among the shoppers, but also to those of us who feel good about helping others by de-cluttering our homes.  Thank you again.

Save the Date: All-Congregational Day of Service

Saturday, September 10th will be our second annual All-Congregational Day of Service.  This year we will join our friends at L'Arche to work alongside them on a project and join them for worship and a meal.  This will be an cross-generational event, and carpooling to the L'arche community in Midland will be offered.  Stay tuned for more details, but mark your calendars now!

Women of St. Mark's

Our next "Creative Nite Out" is set for Friday, August 26th, 7 9 pm. Mark your calendars and come join us!

Mark your calendars for the following events: The annual Bazaar will be held on November 5th this year and the Advent Brunch will be on December 3rd. We will need lots and lots of baked goods along with all of the wonderfully creative items I know you are already making for sale at the Bazaar. We need all congregation support to make these events happen.

Look for signup sheets for Bazaar help and the Advent Brunch. It takes a congregation to make these events successful. Please contact Barbara Meyers at 2537569352 or email with questions or ideas.
