From Your Senior Pastor

“God, you point the way to new life in Christ and meet us on the road. Help us to remember that we journey in your abiding love through the power of the Holy Spirit.”
How does God meet us along the road and bring us to new life? I invite you to join me in a Bible Study on Sunday mornings in October (excluding October 9th) from 11:00-11:30am. We’ll be studying the parable of the Prodigal Son in scripture, art, and music, meeting in the Conference Room.
I also invite you to use the prayer above in your daily devotions as St. Mark’s
continues its process of calling your new settled senior pastor. I challenge you to commit it to memory, use it to begin each church meeting or gathering, write it on a note card and tape it to your mirror or car dashboard – whatever will help you to wear these words upon your heart!
On the journey together,
Pastor Kendra
Flu Shots

It is getting to be that time of year again. Days are getting shorter and temperatures are dropping. Along with that comes cold and flu season. The parish nurse wants to remind you that now is the time to start thinking about getting your flu shot. The church will not be able to offer a flu shot clinic this year but you are encouraged to make an appointment with your Doctor or one of the local pharmacies offering flu shots. Be safe and stay healthy!

Sometimes paths cross for long stretches and sometimes it's for short seasons. In each situation God has a plan and puts people together for a purpose greater than we know. My time here at St. Mark's has been short, but it will not be easily forgotten. Everyone I have had the pleasure of working with has been so kind, helpful, and gracious. I thank you all. Monday I will start a position with the City of Peoria that gives me an opportunity to work in a field that has long been a passion of mine and build into the community I live in. Again, St. Mark's, thank you for everything. May God richly bless each of you - Rob Whitney

Piece and Comfort Quilters
Materials Needed

More than 200 quilts have been sewn this year for the annual blessing and donation to Lutheran World Relief (LWR). With that date still about a month away, more materials are still needed so the group can have even more assembled for the Blessing of the Quilts in October. Yet, this need for materials is year round as Piece and Comfort Quilters work year after year to create these beautiful quilts. Well over 1000 quilts have already been provided to people all over the world through this powerful ministry. Donations of the following materials can be left at the church office:
  • Fabric
  • Lightly used or new clean sheets (full size or larger)

Change for Charity - Piece and Comfort Quilters
This Sunday

The quilt donations are the longest running program of LWR having started back in 1945. The quilts provided by St. Mark's will first travel to St. John's in Bloomington for their in-gathering. From there, they are transported to LWR headquarters for distribution where they are then shipped to needed areas. To help offset the cost LWR asks for a $25 donation to transport them to headquarters and $2.25 for each quilt to help offset the cost of shipping them.

Youth News
Youth Service Day

On September 25, our youth group is looking to serve those who could use a little extra help this fall. This could include pulling weeds, raking leaves, cleaning windows, painting, or other work around the house or yard! If you are interested or know someone who is interested, please contact Jeremy at or sign up using the form in the Gathering Space.
Successful Blood Drive!!

What a wonderful turnout for St. Mark's Blood Drive with the Red Cross at 5 Points. There were 61 individual who came and donated, with at least 8 of them being St. Mark's members! That doesn't include all the St. Mark's volunteers, 24 of them, who baked goodies, worked the reception desk, helped at the snack table, escorted donors, set up tables, or coordinated the event. Because of all of those involved, much needed blood and platelets were collected that will go and save lives. Well done good and faithful servants! Thank you to all who donated precious time and blood.
Members Helping Members

Looking for an opportunity to do some service for some members of St. Mark's? The Parish Nurse has been made aware of some opportunities to help a couple of our senior members out. There is one member who lives in town and needs some weeding done. Another couple lives on the edge of town towards Eureka and needs a tree trimmed and a fence line cleaned up. For more information please contact the Parish Nurse at (309) 444-4618 or email at
