NEWS & EVENTS
From Your
Senior Pastor

The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. (Psalm 23:1)

Last Sunday it was so meaningful to have the children (and some adults!) gather around the little lamb provided by the Schleich family for the Children’s Message. Always remember that Christ is our Good Shepherd! I also shared this photo of the little lamb that was born on my sister’s farm in Ukraine. His birth is a sign of hope in the midst of war.

Also congratulate Pastor Hanson for his regular staff position and as he celebrates his 87th birthday in May. If you wish to bring a card or note for any of these lovely people, please bring them Sunday and baskets to collect them will be provided for each person.
Silent Auction for Quilt

Pastor Maureen Stein, assistant to the Bishop, has made a beautiful hand-stitched quilt to be donated for a silent auction to benefit Lutheran Disaster Response for Ukrainian refugees. The quilt is 80x100” and fits a queen-sized bed. You can see the quilt in the gathering space. Make sure to get your bids in by May 15. External bids will also be accepted in order to maximize the donation to Lutheran Disaster Response. You can place your bid in the Gathering Space using the provided form, or online with the form linked here.
Grief Share Meeting - May 18 Meeting Postponed

The Parish Nurse would like to schedule a meeting for those working through grief and in need of support. If you would like more information, or be put on a contact list for the next meeting, please call the office at (309) 444-4618 or email parishnurse@stmarkswashington.org.
Informational Meetings for Congregation

The call committee has scheduled two informational meetings with the Lutheran Congregations in Mission for Christ (LCMC). The first one took place on Saturday, May 7, at 10:00 am and can be viewed here. The second is scheduled for Saturday, May 21, at 10 am in the John Bates FLC. An additional meeting will be set for Tuesday, May 24, at 6 pm for Bishop Roth to be able to present on this as well. These additional meetings will be recorded and posted at a later date on YouTube. Questions can be submitted ahead of time here. For additional information the original email regarding these meetings can be found here, as well as the update email here.

A special congregational meeting will be held on June 5 immediately following the contemporary worship service [meeting start time approximately 11:45 am] to allow the congregation to discuss the information presented at the three May informational sessions. The church council will set an agenda for this congregational meeting at its May 17 church council meeting and circulate the agenda with the congregational meeting notice.
Geranium Sponsors Needed
Pentecost Sunday, June 5

Help St. Mark's sanctuary look beautiful for Pentecost Sunday. On June 5 we will be decorating with red geraniums. To sponsor a geranium, please contact the office at office@stmarkswashington.org or call (309) 444-4618. Following Pentecost, the geraniums will be planted around the church grounds for the community to enjoy as well. For just $8.00 you'll get to beautify both the sanctuary and St. Mark's grounds. Orders need to be placed by May 29. Sponsors will be listed in the church bulletin.
Volunteers for VBS

It's not too early to start thinking about VBS at St. Mark's. This year the theme will be "Rocky Railway; Jesus' Power Pulls Us Through". It will take place July 25-28, from 6:00pm - 7:30pm. This is an opportunity to pour into our youth in a fun and interactive way that can help make the Bible come alive to young and old. Right now Gwen Ziegler is looking for the following lead volunteer roles:
  • Decorations (Most of this is planned but a coordinator is needed
  • Bible Story Skits (Skits are provided)
  • Games (Pick games from list and organize supplies)
  • Registration Tracking (record registrations and organize into groups)
  • Meal Coordinator (A simple meal each night from 5:15pm - 6:00pm)
We know what we need to execute but we need your help to do it! If you'd like to volunteer for one of the lead roles or help with one of these groups, please email Gwen at zieglergwenm@gmail.com or talk with her on a Sunday. Thank you for helping us deliver another successful year of VBS!
We've Got DOORS!!!

It's the light at the end of the tunnel, or hallway in this case, as contractors have been here over the last several weeks finishing up drywall, painting, and now installing new doors for the fire door project. If all goes well, the project should be finished up soon.
