St. Mark's Weekly E-blast

We gather, connect, and serve so all may experience the love of Christ.

By Rev. Lynn Bartlow

Lead Pastor

As a teenager, I was part of the youth group of First UMC of Madison, Florida. I attended weekly UMYF meetings and participated in all the service projects, studies, and retreats with my friends. It was on one youth Mission Trip that I felt my first call to be a pastor; it was my youth director and other leaders in that church who affirmed that call in my life.

I know the importance of youth ministry, and I'm grateful for our commitment here at St. Mark's to the faith formation of our children and youth. We are known in the Conference as a church with a strong youth program, thanks to the years of service by our former youth director, Pastor Kim Ogle. We continue to lead the way in the District and Conference Youth Ministry thanks to the leadership of our current youth director, Rachel Mosher. We are blessed to have such a strong history and a strong current ministry.

Youth and children are not simply to be seen and not heard here at St. Mark's. We incorporate them into the life of the church as liturgists, leading us in service projects, and in worship. This week, I am excited to step out of the pulpit and give it over to our youth. They asked to lead worship this Fall, and we thought a Fifth Sunday would be the perfect time.

Our youth have planned everything for this Sunday, from the songs to the scriptures to the children's message and the liturgy. To top it all off, four of our youth will share mini-sermons. Our youth program continues to be a strong ministry of our church and I'm confident worship on Sunday will be a wonderful testimony to how their faith impacts their daily lives.

But we couldn't leave out the Sanctuary Campus! This week, we will experience a Prayer and Music Sunday. Our wonderful Praise Team will lead as usual, but we will also be blessed by the Tongan Youth Choir from Mesa. It promises to be a powerful service of music and prayers for our community and world.

We won't finish the Looking Inward, Living Outward series in worship but we encourage you to come to Soul Station this week and next to finish that discussion!

We are blessed by the youth in our church. Come Sunday to receive the gift of worship that they will lead. You won't be disappointed!

See you soon,

Pastor Lynn
