St. Mark's Weekly E-blast

We gather, connect, and serve so all may experience the love of Christ.

Greetings!

This Sunday, August 31st is a 5th Sunday! That means that on Magee campus, the Discipleship Team will provide a Family Worship Service. Instead of attending Sunday School, the children and youth will come to church with their families for the entire service. As the service begins, the children and youth will be invited to meet at the back of the sanctuary to travel up the yellow brick road. They are then invited to stay up front in an area just in front of the organ and participate in the service and in art activities which they will share with the congregation.

The focus of the message and activities is the Wizard of OZ – What are we searching for? Where do we find it?

The Scarecrow, the Tin Man, the Lion and Dorothy believe they’re missing something (a brain, heart, courage, home), but as they make the journey down the yellow brick road, they discover they already possess those qualities. Our scripture reminds us of where we look to find the qualities that we desire as well as the qualities our God desires for us.

Like Dorothy and her friends, we often search for what’s already inside us. Rachel Mosher will talk about Wisdom, Pastor Deborah will discuss Love, and Edwin Andrade will share about Courage. The children and youth will be invited to participate in each discussion.

At the Sanctuary campus, join Pastor Lynn in a unique service that will also feature this Wizard of Oz theme and our search for wisdom, love, and courage. This is a week you won’t want to miss!

You are invited to consider what you are searching for and where you might find it.

Come be a part of this special time of worship!

Blessings,

Pastor Deb

Needed: Backup Delivery Driver

Once a month, TMM picks up the contents of the three donations bins from the Magee campus.

Occasionally, TMM cannot pick up our donations if their truck is already full from previous stops.

When that happens, we would love to have someone we could call on to drive our donations to the Restore near Reid Park and 22nd St.

Contact Lorri Jordan to volunteer or for more information.

Let's help our United Women in Faith minister to the least of these.

We are collecting items to make hygiene bags for women at Primavera Foundation!

These can be dropped off in the courtyard (Magee) or at the red table (Sanctuary) on August 31 or September 7, or you can drop them off in the office.

The following travel-size items are requested:

Shampoo, Conditioner, Body Wash, Disposable shaving razor, Shaving cream, Deodorant, Vaseline, Toothpaste .85 oz, Chap stick, Comb, Laundry detergent.

Please join us for On Your Mark's Walking Group!  Summer mall walking is here!  We will meet on Friday, 9/5 at 9:45 a.m. We meet in the church's North parking lot. Bring water and plan on 3 hours, (includes travel time) for 3 miles. Contact Cheri Schwartz 602-320-2152

Bible and a Bite is back from it Summer Hiatus!

Join us on Thursdays at 12:30 pm at the home of Chris Shafer. Bring a something to eat and the most current Upper Room for study, prayer, and conversation. Contact the church office if you need the address.

Join the Mark-a-ritas for a day out to tour the historic downtown Fox Theater on Tuesday, September 9 at noon. The hour and a half tour high lights the interesting history and incredible stories of the theater.  See how the art deco of the twenties is merged with the style of the Southwest to create beautiful architecture. There are some stairs on the tour. There is no cost for the tour, but donations are appreciated. If you are interested in going, contact markaritas.tucson@gmail.com. We will meet in the south parking lot of the church at 11:15 and travel downtown together.

Exciting News!!!!!

We have confirmed the dates for our Adults Missions Trip to Chinle, AZ.

We are excited to announce the dates as Oct. 20, 21 and 22, 2025. We will be taking the church van, so space is limited.

If you are interested please contact Karen Berry (see directory).

We will be helping the elders of the Navajo nation for their Thanksgiving holiday. Details will be announced in next month's Messenger as to how you can help.

Missions Committee Meeting, Tuesday, Sept 2, 2025, 4pm, room 20. Everyone is invited.

Do you have organizational skills? Are you looking for a way to use those skills?

Join the Craft Circle Leadership Team!

We are looking for a new Craft Circle Co-Leader to serve alongside Johanna Eubank. After many years of wonderful leadership, Bonnie (& Russ) Sargent are stepping back, and we are deeply grateful for their service.

The Craft Circle is a fun, creative group of 15+ women who meet year-round to prepare for our big Masterpiece Festival (November) and Sunday Morning Craft Sale (December). You don’t need to sew, knit, or crochet—just bring a little organization, creativity, and a heart for fellowship.

Interested?

Bonnie and Johanna would love to chat and share more about how easy (and joyful!) it is to help lead this special ministry.
