St. Mark's Weekly E-blast

We gather, connect, and serve so all may experience the love of Christ.

Our current sermon series is encouraging us to keep God at the center and be open to relationships. Praying consistently and from the heart is important to keep God at your center. This is not always easy for me. One way that I find helpful is participating in the Prayer Partner Project sponsored by Discipleship Ministries. My partner and I committed to praying on a regular basis for and with one another. We used text messages, email, and zoom (we don’t live in the same city!) Sharing deep feelings with another person is helpful in seeing your relationships with not only the person with whom you are sharing, but also others around you.

These are the steps if you think this might be helpful for you:

  • Pick your prayer partner! Don't have one? Sign up here for one we assign you from the church. LINK
  • Register online so you and your prayer partner will receive the prayer toolkit. REGISTER HERE
  • Decide how often you and your partner will pray for each other.
  • Decide how often you and your partner will communicate. (Will you meet in person, via phone, email, or text?)
  • Join our Facebook group to receive resources and share your stories. Join here
  • Encourage others to join the Prayer Partner Project.

Activities that prayer partners can do together:

  • Share prayer requests with your prayer partner.
  • Pray the Lord’s Prayer at the same time every day. (Set your alarm for a specific time; when it goes off, pray the Lord’s Prayer, then pray for each other.)
  • Decide how often to pray for each other, perhaps once a day after waking or before bed.
  • Read one of the daily devotions and share your thoughts (or one word) by texting, calling, or emailing.
  • Get together before/after weekly worship to share prayers at a coffee shop or on a walk together.
  • Read books on prayer together. (You will receive an email with suggested prayer books.)

Thanks for considering this worthwhile spiritual practice that helps us in our relationships with God and our neighbors.

Blessings,

In 2007 The United Nations (UN) passed a resolution to observe September 15 as the International Day of Democracy with the purpose of upholding the principles of democracy. The UN definition of democracy is “a universal value based on the freely-expressed will of people to determine their own political, economic, social and cultural systems, and their full participation in all aspects of life.” Our democracy depends on citizens voting on candidates and issues which will further these goals. PLEASE VOTE IN THE UPCOMING ELECTION.

The League of Women Voters will present and explain the multiple propositions that will appear on ballots this November. Early ballots will be mailed October 9th. This is your chance to learn more about these important matters before casting your vote. This free event is open to everyone. Please join us and bring a friend!
