St. Martin in-the-Fields’

FaithWorks Campaign and Walk-a-thon

The Parish of St. Martin in-the-Fields near High Park in West Toronto has been a strong supporter of FaithWorks for many years. Their annual FaithWorks campaign held during Lent is an important part of parish life. The recently retired Fr. Philip Hobson has always emphasized the good work of FaithWorks in his ministry. The openhearted generosity shown by parishioners over many years was once again manifest in a contribution of over $25,000 in 2022.

The energetic FaithWorks Coordinator for the parish, Judith Kidd, tells us, “Historically, our main campaign is over three or four weeks in Lent.  During that period, we try to have two Sundays with homilists/speakers who represent the Diocesan partners and also a local partner that we support with the parish portion of donations.  We also have the FaithWorks information packages addressed and ready for people to pick up at the start of the campaign. Those not picked up are mailed or, in some cases, hand delivered.  This way every parish family does get a package.

During the campaign we also have a 'FaithWorks Breakfast' between the 8:30 and 11:00 am services.  This is not really seen as a fund raiser - our goal is to break even - but it's another way of creating awareness of the campaign.

One activity to try to raise funds actually takes place outside of the campaign. What it does is to keep FaithWorks' activities in front of the congregation.

We have a WALK-A-THON.

June 11th is the day this year!

It is the annual (or almost annual) parish walk-a-thon to raise funds for FaithWorks. This, some years popular... some years not so populous ..., fundraising event does have one common feature - it is an event that can accommodate participation in some form for everyone in the parish. The walk for most years is a walk from one end of Toronto Island to the other.

We start at the ferry terminal and take the ferry to Hanlan's Point. Then we walk to the St. Andrew by-the-Lake Church for a picnic and short service. At the Church we also meet up with those who are not able to walk the whole route. It seems to me having those fellow parishioners at the Church welcoming the walkers is really special. It's almost symbolic of what FaithWorks is about - giving support to those doing the heavy work! Participating in whatever way one can is all equally important. After the stop at St. Andrew's, we continue on to Ward's Island. With a stop for an ice cream cone, we take a ferry back to the city."

This year, interim priest, Fr. P.J. Carefoote will be walking. If you wish to sponsor him, please contact the Parish office at

[email protected] or (416) 767-7491.

Let’s all pray for good weather and success

for this year’s St. Martin in-the-Fields' Walk-a-thon for FaithWorks on the Toronto Islands!

A $100,000 Matching Challenge Grant for 2023

A generous donor has offered a $100,000 matching challenge grant for all new and increased donations. That means for every dollar raised over last year’s amount, by an individual or parish, FaithWorks receives an extra dollar. We encourage you to make a special effort this year –

doing a little more can make twice the difference.
