Ayo!'s Latest Project Aims to Support One of Yerevan's Oldest Neighborhoods

Ayo!'s latest initiative aims to breathe some life back into Kond, one of Yerevan's most historic neighborhood. "Kond that was, Kond to be" will support one local artist's plan for revitalization. Once slated for total demolition, Kond receives little investment. Its buildings are crumbling, and most of the locals live without basic amenities, like indoor plumbing. Yet, it is still filled with historic charm. Sergey Navasardyan's   #YerevanTropics   initiative aims to repaint some of Kond's most desolate walls with unique street art. With help from five local painters and two international street artists, he will help draw greater positive attention to this neighborhood, spotlighting its need for revitalization and investment. Donating to Ayo!'s project will help support Sergey's efforts to secure participation of the other artists for this project. FAR's "Saving the Generation" Program Grows

To improve medical care and educational conditions in Armenia's vulnerable border communities, the Fund for Armenian Relief is expanding the healthcare component of its "Saving the Generation" program, making inroads into the Ijevan and Noyemberyan regions.

Four rural medical clinics and six kindergartens received support last March thanks to the expansion. Village kindergartens received new furniture, air conditioners, kitchen equipment, and bedding. Medical clinics received EKG machines, tonometers, glucometers, glucometer strips, otoscopes, ophthalmoscopes, and nebulizers.

Dr. Geghap Pirumyan, a cardiologist in Getahovit village, emphasized the importance of having an EKG machine in the clinic he directs. Previously, patients had to go to Yerevan to receive specialized treatment for heart disease and high blood pressure, he explained. "Now, with the new EKG machine, we will be able to examine 10 to 15 patients a day, if needed," he said.
TOP STORIES

Pentecost(Hokekaloost)

Falling 50 days after Easter, Pentecost celebrates the coming of the Holy Spirit upon the disciples, empowering them to go out into the world and share Jesus' message of salvation. (See Acts 2:1-21 and above for full account.) Armenians are especially joyful at the gift of language received by the disciples Thaddeus and Bartholomew who were then able to journey to Armenia (each at a different time) to convert and baptize many. These First Enlighteners planted the seeds that St. Gregory would cultivate and bring to full bloom two centuries later when Armenia became the "first Christian nation" under his mentorship. This coming of the Holy Spirit took place at the time of the Feast of Weeks, a harvest feast of pilgrimage, so Jews from everywhere were gathered in Jerusalem to give thanks for the first fruits of nature. Similarly, Christian Pentecost is a festival of thanksgiving for the first fruits of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit descended on a group of Jesus' followers whose hearts were open in prayer. How ready are you to receive the Spirit's guidance and power in your life?

That story is retold in "Tongues of Fire": a video in the Bread & Salt series. Click here to view it-and share it with others-in preparation for Sunday.

Hampartzoum

The Women's Guild hosted their Hampartzoum celebration on Friday, May 31st. This year close to 50 guests and guild members gathered to proudly honor Mrs. Arsaluys Bahcali for her many years of dedication and commitment to her church and community. A delicious catered meal from The Big Greek Cafe, complimented with homemade boreg and humus, was served.  The evening was beautifully concluded with a special performance by the Shgtagh Dance Company.

DIOCESAN AND OTHER NEWS
D-Day Plus 27,393

Yesterday June 6th marked the 75th anniversary of D-Day: the greatest invasion in the history of mankind; the greatest military force ever unleashed in the cause of liberation.

Seven and a-half decades later, it's hard to comprehend the magnitude of that day: the danger the soldiers faced; the misery they endured; the valor they showed in storming Normandy Beach, exposed in the heat of enemy fire.

The stakes involved in the invasion, the cost to the world should it fail, were impossibly high-as were the sacrifices required to see it through. Most remarkable of all is the fact that it was accomplished by men from the most ordinary walks of life-most of them in the bloom of youth-who nevertheless managed to turn the tide of history.

New Choices Video

In the latest episode of the Diocese's online video series Choices, Fr. Tateos Abdalian considers the quality of courage. Where does it come from? And why have human beings been endowed with an ability to stand up against danger and deceit?

25 These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you. 26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. 27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. 28 Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I. 29 And now I have told you before it come to pass, that, when it is come to pass, ye might believe. 30 Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me. 31 But that the world may know that I love the Father; and as the Father gave me commandment, even so I do. Arise, let us go hence.
John 14:25-31
