"As you sent me into the world, so I sent them into the world.
And I consecrate myself for them, so that they also may be consecrated in truth."
~Jn 17:18-19
Ascension Sunday
Today the Church celebrates the Solemnity of the Ascension, which recalls the day when Jesus Christ, having completed his redemptive work on earth, entered into heaven in his glorified human body. Before ascending to the right hand of His Father, Jesus promised to send them the Holy Spirit. He also instructed gave them the mission of the Church: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you (Mt. 28: 19-20).” The ability of the apostles to succeed in that mission was the Holy Spirit who descended upon them and filled them with gifts on Pentecost. As we await the celebration of Pentecost next weekend, we pray that we would be generous and faithful disciples of the Lord, striving to fulfill the mission of the Church. We sing, Veni Sancte Spiritus (Come Holy Spirit) as we prepare to celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit and the birth of the Church on Pentecost Sunday.
At this weekend’s Masses, fifty-eight young people will celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation and receive the outpouring of the Holy Spirit and the Spirit’s gifts. We pray that our newly confirmed put those gifts to use in service of their family, the parish, and the wider community. I am grateful to the parents of Confirmand and all those people responsible for their formation.

New Guidelines for Mass – May 29/30
Our current guidelines for gathering for Sunday Mass will stay in place until the weekend of May 29/30. Until then, you must register for weekend Mass on line, wear a mask and maintain a six foot distance between you and those not in your household. HOWEVER, beginning on the weekend of May 29/30:

  • you will not need to register for Masses (Alleluia)
  • the social distancing requirement will be eliminated (Alleluia)
  • we will have congregational singing beginning on May 29/30 (Alleluia)

Everyone will be required to wear a mask until July 1 or as soon as 70% of people are vaccinated (whichever is earlier). I am grateful for your patience as we worshipped through this pandemic. St. Mary of the Lake was able to stay open through these days because of your cooperation.

Bishop Elect James Golka
Pope Francis has appointed Fr. James Golka from the Diocese of Grand Island Nebraska to be the next bishop of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Father Golka attended the St. Paul Seminary and was ordained to the priesthood in 1994. Some of you may remember Fr. Golka from his days as a teaching parish seminarian at St. Mary of the Lake. Fr. Golka will be ordained a bishop in Colorado Springs on June 29, 2021, the Feast of
Ss. Peter and Paul. We pray that God would abundantly bless the bishop-elect in his new ministry.
Peace, Fr. Talbot

Funerals are Private
In our ongoing efforts to keep parishioners as safe as possible during COVID-19, funerals at St. Mary’s will be private. Many families choose to have the funeral livestreamed so that others can participate online.
Memorial Day Mass at the Cemetery
After cancelling this event last year due to Covid, we are going to bring back the outdoor Mass at the cemetery in 2021! The Mass will be on Monday, May 31 at 9:00 AM. Our cemetery is located at 1625 Stillwater Street in White Bear Township. Please bring a lawn chair. The Mass takes place in the north end of the cemetery. In that area, there is a road around the big central area. There is plenty of room to park there. Otherwise, there is limited parking in the rest of the cemetery. Parking on the street is the alternative. Although the state mandate now allows for no masks at outdoor events of this size, you may certainly choose to wear your mask. Other things that are different from past Masses at the cemetery are the following: no worship aids, no passing the basket (although there will be a way to donate) and no treats after Mass. Let’s hope it is a beautiful day! If it rains, we will celebrate Mass in the church.

Consider Remote Giving to Support Our Parish
There are currently three ways to give electronically:
  1. Monthly amount transferred from your bank account (click on the DONATE button on our website home page to find a form). It would be better to mail the form to us, since you need to include a voided check.
  2. Weekly, monthly, or one-time checks sent by your bank or other financial service organization (contact your bank to set up a plan that works for you). It is helpful to have your envelope number on the check your bank sends to us.
  3. Weekly, monthly, or one-time gifts charged to your credit card (click on the DONATE button on our website home page to set up your gift).

There is a way to give remotely that is not “high tech”: Simply mail us your check. Our address:
4690 Bald Eagle Avenue, White Bear Lake, 55110.

Thank you so much for your support in this difficult time.
Thanks to the generosity of supporters like you, Frassati families and friends, St. Pius X parishioners, St. Mary of the Lake parishioners, the companies and individuals who donated items for the virtual auction, and our outstanding sponsors, we were able to raise $106,570. A portion of this money will be used to purchase the science curriculum items that were directly funded via this year’s Fund-a-Need. The remaining proceeds will help support immediate needs and long-term goals, including scholarships, capital improvements, teacher development, and so much more.
Thank you for all you did and continue to do to support our mission, as we strive to provide an exceptional Catholic education to the children of today while inspiring them to be virtuous leaders of tomorrow.
We would like to especially thank our Presenting Sponsor, Rink-Tec International, the industry leader in ice rink construction and service throughout the Midwest and nationwide. Kyle Gillespie, owner, and his wife, Kim, are parishioners of St. Mary’s and active supporters of Frassati since 2016. They have two children who attend Frassati, Logan in third grade and Kate in first. Frassati is beyond grateful for Rink-Tec signing on as our first sponsor of the 2021 event, and investing in our mission as our exclusive Presenting Sponsor!
