A community of Christian worship, well-being, & service.

Weekend of October 5 & 6, 2019

Dear Friends,

This weekend we will remember St. Francis as we gather in worship.  One way we join with churches around the world, recalling St. Francis' connection to creatures and the created world is to bless animals.

It is always a worship experience full of surprises as the four leggeds and those that fly join us in the pews. It is also a good symbolic reminder of God's love for all creatures and the presence of the Holy One in our relationships with each other, with our animals and with the natural world. As the climate change is a crisis of utmost importance for people the world over, we gather as people of faith and hope. We bless animals as a sign of our love for God and our intention to be good stewards of the creatures and creation with which God has entrusted us.

Our gospel will remind us that faith the size of a mustard seed will be enough. We have what we need.  We are the ones God needs.

On Sunday our teens will head out for a beach clean up as another sign of caring for the creation.  Please join us in worship, well-being and service this weekend.  You matter here.

Preparing for Worship This Weekend

T his Weekend's Collect
A lmighty and everlasting God, you are always more ready to hear than we to pray, and to give more than we either desire or deserve: Pour upon us the abundance of your mercy, forgiving us those things of which our conscience is afraid, and giving us those good things for which we are not worthy to ask, except through the merits and mediation of Jesus Christ our Savior; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Donations this month for the MLK Center
Our current donation focus for the MLK Center is on breakfast cereals.

We are also collecting canned pumpkin, sweetened condensed milk, and graham crackers crusts to assemble dessert kits for MLK guests.
Donation baskets are in the entry to the church and parish house.
Your generosity blesses many people.

Community Garden Updates and Information
Community support to local food pantries is well under way.  Donation areas in the church kitchen are well marked in the fridge and counter.  Home garden overflow is welcome!  Please donate!

If you have a submission for E-news:
If you have news or an announcement that you'd like to be added to this e-newsletter, please email
Submissions should be sent by Wednesdays to be added to the weekend e-news.

Recently, many, many organizations, especially churches have been the targets of fraudulent emails.

They often appear to be from the rector or a staff member. They usually ask for money or personal information.

If an email looks suspicious before you open it, trust your instinct and DO NOT open it.

If you are unsure, DO NOT open it.

If you do open an email and it appears to be asking for money or personal information, DO NOT REPLY and DO NOT send money.

Jennifer and the SMC staff and leaders will NEVER ask you for money directly via email.

You can always call or send an email to us if you are not sure. We are aware of the problem and this is part of the technology age in which we live and there is very little that can be done to stop this annoyance, but we should be mindful when opening and replying to emails always.
