Principal Notes                                               October 24 2018

Dear Families,

The halls are bustling with volunteers.  There is an excitement in the air. Slowly we are seeing the transformation take place.  By tomorrow night we will be alive with the spirit of Halloween. Please join us for Spooks and Spoofs from 5:00-8:00 p.m.

Fall was showing us it's true colors on Saturday morning.  We had a beautiful chilly day for the Souls Walk! Over 8000 people were there to walk for Catholic Education.  Thank you for starting the day here at SMV with coffee and donuts and then walking with us. Special thanks to Tina Crighton for chairing this event!

Please join us for Mass on Thursday at 8:00 for the Feast of All Saints.  Stop by the gym after from 9:30-11:00 for our All Saints Museum. We will have over 50 saints from our church's history wonderfully acted out by our 7th and 8th grade students.

We are beginning the cold and flu season. If your child has a fever, vomiting or diarrhea, please keep them home for at least 24 hours.  We have so many families with new babies, moms that are expecting or siblings that cannot have any vaccinations. We want to keep everyone healthy.

Congratulations to 8th grade boys team and our 8th grade girls (who play with St. Joe's). They have been invited to the Seton Volleyball Tournament. The boy's team will play on Monday night at 5:30 at Center Court in Waukesha. The girl's will play Tuesday at 5:30. Here is the link for more details. https://www.theseton.net/

The first quarter ends Wednesday October 31.  Conferences are scheduled Monday, November 19th  from 4:00-8:00 pm and Tuesday morning, November 20th  from 7:30-11:30am. It is Thanksgiving week. There is school on Monday, but no school Tuesday-Friday that week.  Watch for Sign-up Genius soon.

Just a reminder there is no school on Friday, November 2nd. All the teachers in our deanery are gathering for Sustaining the Mission. Twice a year we have  dedicated time for faith formation.

If you have any questions or concerns, please give me a call.  I am happy to help.

Have a wonderful week.

SMV Christmas Concert Information
For this year's Christmas concert, students in 4K through 5th grade will perform the mini-musical Carol and the Belles . 4th and 5th graders will have the opportunity to audition for main character roles during music classes this week and next week. Our musical is set in 1954, so all students in 4K-1st and 3rd-5th grades should start planning a 1950's outfit for the Christmas concert. This "costume" can be very simple - such as jeans and a white t-shirt for boys and jeans with a sweater and scarf for girls.   Mrs. Kesler will speak with students in main character roles about costumes. Students in 2nd grade should plan to wear their living nativity costumes for the birth of Jesus scene in our musical. Mrs. Kesler and Ms. Koepke will talk more about this with 2nd grade soon!

Calling all parent artists! We are looking for parent volunteers to help paint our set for the Christmas show. If you are interested and could be available on a weekday between 12:00 pm and 3:30 pm, please email Mrs. Kesler at skesler@stmaryeg.org. Thank you!

Immunizations
Last year we had only 86.57% of students compliant with the immunization law.  This is the lowest it has ever been.  Last week the teachers emailed the parents of students who needed updates or even a immunization on record with the school. As of October 31, parents who are not in compliance with the immunization record will receive a legal notice.  It is so easy to obtain your child's records by going to this website   https://www.dhswir.org/PR/clientSearch.do?language=en
Please inform the school office of any updates to your child's immunizations.

After School Coordinator Needed
St. Mary's Visitation Parish School is looking for a friendly, energetic person to work as our After School Care Coordinator. Resposibilities include supervising a support staff member, recording and maintaining usage records, monitoring students arrival and sign out, assisting with snack time and clean up, providing students with play materials, help with homework, and above all, making After School Care a fun place to be at the end of the school day.
The hours are 2:30-6:00 p.m. or until the last child leaves.  We are open every day we have school.

In Appreciation Fund
For the VERY organized parents in this group, we wanted to give you a heads up that the IN APPRECIATION FUND will be back again this year!!!!
This is a VERY easy way to give a holiday gift to the SMV faculty and staff.
We will be collecting funds in November and early December and they will be distributed between ALL SMV staff members!!
Any amount is appreciated!
Your family's last name will be included in the cards we give to each recipient!!
There will be more information coming in the virtual backpack in the next month!
The good news is.... you have one less person to buy a Christmas present for!
If you have any questions please ask either Rebecca Mindy or Amy Van Ells.

Positively
 SMV

It is the time of year when we are all reminded how blessed we are at SMV- It is impossible to walk through the hallways without noticing all the awesome Halloween decorations.  These are the handy work of Mr. Dennis Zainer, better known at SMV as Mr. Fix-It.
Many thanks to Mr. Fix-It for keeping our halls filled with the spirit of the seasons and ensuring things are running smoothly.  Next time you see Mr. Fix-It in the hallway, make sure to say hello and give him a huge SMV thank you!
And with that you will find a few things that are Positively SMV!
