Principal Notes                                               February 7, 2019

Dear Families,

We are getting back to a sense of normalcy from our time off last week due to the cold and snow. Repairs are being completed in all areas where we had the burst pipes. We are thankful to our maintenance man Mr. Fix-it who has been on top of all of this.

Archdiocese Of Milwaukee 175th Anniversary Museum will be  12:30PM-2:00PM Today, February 7th in the Senior Center.  Grades 5 & 6 students will present historical figures, places, and notable institutions for the past 175 years of our great archdiocese. All are welcomed to come.

Report Cards will go home on Thursday. MAP scores also will be going home electronically this week. We are very excited to share with you our new logo!  With your child's report card you will see a brochure that exemplifies how we incorporate STREAM (science, technology, religion, engineering, art and math) into our curriculum. This will go home with the youngest child. Please share this with anyone who is thinking about sending their child to SMV.

February 14 th is our 2 nd parent/teacher conference of the school year.  School is dismissed at 11:00. Conferences are from 2:00-6:00 that evening.  Sign-up genius will be sent home this week. A conference can be requested by you or the classroom teacher.

In the middle of this long winter we are busy making hearts and thinking about others. Many of the classrooms will be busy making Valentine boxes and cards. Our 2 nd graders make Valentine Day cards for our home-bound parishioners.  Valentine's Day is a time to share our love with one another, as Christ called us to do with His Greatest Commandment.

Friday, February 15 th and Monday, February 18 th there is no school for the students.  Our deanery will be at St. Dominic's for both days.  Friday is an Archdiocesan Curriculum Day on assessment.  Monday is our second Sustaining the Mission Day. We are required to have 12 hours of religious training each year.

We do not have to make up the snow/cold days from last week. We have enough days/hours to cover the time off.

Home & School Volunteers
Thank you to Kelly Krause and to all of the parents who volunteered for our Scholastic Book Fair in support of the SMV Library. We appreciate your flexibility in making this event happen during a week of crazy weather. Thank you to Amy & Peter Henry and our chili making contestants. It was another fabulous Chili Chomp and we appreciate you all putting on a great party. And thank you to Paula Horning for an afternoon of fun at New Berlin Bowl. We always have H&S volunteers working behind the scenes and we appreciate you all planning our upcoming events!

Please watch for an invitation from Sign-Up Genius requesting your help with our upcoming Auction for Education. We will need everyone's help for a successful evening. In addition, we are still in search of a few important volunteer roles for this Spring:
  1. We are still in need of 7th grade parent to help us celebrate our graduates by planning the 8th Grade Graduation Reception/Dance.
  2. We need a 5th grade parent/team to plan Field Day, which is a ½ day event this year.
  3. We are looking for a parent to lead our participation in the Elm Grove Memorial Day Parade.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Rebecca Mindy or any member of the H&S Board. Thank you!!!

 SMV

A couple of Sundays ago, so many came to celebrate our school at the Open House.  Thank you to all the families, friends and grandparents who braved the cold weather to share the SMV spirit!  A special thank you to the parents that spoke at masses and all the students who participated in masses or offered an SMV reflection at mass.  Many parishioners commented that they were very impressed with our students.  Thank you also to all the parents that helped with tours, hospitality and in the classrooms.  Finally, thank you to the Cub Scouts for another delicious pancake breakfast.  So many people came together, offering their time to make it a wonderful SMV morning!  Thank you!

And with that you will find a few things that are Positively SMV!
