Dear Families,

With the announcement on Tuesday that schools are closed indefinitely, we are looking at a new normal. I want you to know that we are doing our best to deliver quality instruction to your children. I also know that this is overwhelming.  I worry about your mental health. You don't get a break from your children. The days are long and I would suppose you are grateful when it is time for them to go to bed and you can finally have a moment of quiet. Remember, as much as we are tiring of all this family time, there are people who live alone and are craving anyone to talk to.

This is new for the teachers, too, and we are still looking for a rhythm to our day. Just as you are, we are not used to working from home.  We miss the students and we also miss the social interaction of working with each other. We are best when we can collaborate with each other in person. Please be patient with us.

This Sunday is the Fourth Sunday of Advent. We are at the mid-point of our journey.  The waiting and the watching for us are almost over. Perhaps God is waiting, too. Is God waiting for us, to be light for the world, to make peace? Is God waiting for us, to care more, to forgive more, to love more? Is God waiting for us to recognize Him already with us? I would suggest that perhaps you adopt the "Daily Examen" as a way of detecting God's presence in our lives and discerning his direction for us.

Pray for light: Begin by asking God for the grace to pray, to see
    and to understand.
Give thanks:  Look at your day in the spirit of gratitude...
Review the day: Guided by the Holy Spirit, look back on your day.
Look at what's wrong:  Face up to failures and shortcomings.
  Pray for guidance and strength.

Message from the Musical Team
In light of the recent announcement to postpone school opening indefinitely, we are sad to announce that we are not sure what this means for our spring musical, The Sound of Music. While we are going to do everything in our power to postpone and have the production, these may be circumstances beyond our control. We are not canceling at this time, but just letting you know that we are monitoring the situation and will be in communication with you as we know more. Junior high students, please check the Musical Google Classroom page on Thursday for some additional communication. We know how hard you have all worked on this production already, and we're going to do everything we can for you to have this experience. We are praying for all of you and your families during this uncertain time!

Thank you,
The Musical Team

Positively SMV

Everyone at SMV can certainly come together in agreement on this one- our teachers and staff are absolutely amazing!  This is particularly true of Mrs. Tretow, who as our fearless leader (since 2011), has recently spent countless hours preparing our school for this unprecedented closure.  She led the charge, ensuring that teachers were prepared to pass the baton to the families, various resources were available to families, and an overall communication plan was in place for the weeks ahead.  As a mom of 4 boys, Mrs. Tretow is certainly aware of the complexity of this situation and wants you to know that her "door" continues to be open during these weeks (via email!)  As we have seen, people have really come together over the past days and this is most certainly true at SMV.  Mrs. Tretow is so grateful for how the faculty and staff have pulled together to rise to the situation.  Our wish to you Mrs. Tretow- We hope this time at home affords you the opportunity to take a moment for yourself and do some of the things you love, like reading, spending time with your family, and maybe even spending a little time up North!  Thank you for all that you do for all of us Mrs. Tretow.  Your efforts and dedication to our school, families and community do not go unnoticed!
