Dear Families,

Happy Valentines Day!

Congratulations to the boys 8th grade basketball team.  They have been invited to the Padre Serra. The boys are top seed.  They play on Thursday, March 7 at 6:30. Click the link for more details.

In a few weeks basketball season will be over and we will be looking to track season.  Every year we have around 80 students that participate in our track program. At this time no one has stepped forward as the track coordinator.  We would hate to cancel this popular sport. Please consider volunteering for this position. It takes many hands to make this a successful program. If you are interested, please contact Tom Mindy, our Athletic Director.

I am sharing with you an article I read this week about setting limits around students using their phone and playing games when it is time to do homework. It has some good tips.  Screenagersmovie

We are happy to let you know about another afterschool program.  Starting in March we will add Bricks 4 Kids. This is for K to 5th grade.  Please click on this link for registration.

Also, Chess will have it's second session starting on March 14th.     Click on this link for more details.

Yesterday was our 5th snow day.  We have enough days built in the calendar so we don't have to make it up.  If we have any more, we will look at how to make it up.

Just a reminder, there is not school tomorrow and Friday.  The teachers will be an in-service both days at St. Dominic's.

SMV School Baby Shower for Women's Care Center Starts TODAY!
Please bring any of the following new items to the collection site in the school atrium:   New clothing (newborn to 5T), diapers and pull-ups, diaper bags, baby wipes and toiletries, baby carriers and equipment. In addition, checks to Women's Care Center of Milwaukee are most welcome!
Located on Farwell Ave. in Milwaukee, Women's Care Center is a unique, unconditionally loving counseling magnet for pregnant women in need.    Your donations help sustain the WCC as a beacon for hope for abortion-vulnerable women.  This important support and love help at risk women make courageous choices for life.  Over 92% of those who receive counseling and an ultrasound choose life for their babies.  But it doesn't stop there -- WCC offers education, classes and counseling so women become better parents and create more nurturing and self-sufficient families.
WCC and SMV Respect Life Ministry thank you once again for your support and generosity!

4th Grade Reflections

Last week, Father Peter's message to the students was One talent or gift that God gave all of us is the call to holiness.

What this message means to me is that I know everyone has a different talent but everyone has one of the same talents which is the call to holiness.  It takes a lot of faith to be holy.  You can be holy if you believe in God.   Alison

I think this means God gave us all of the talent of holiness so we could use it.  I use my talent of holiness to serve at St. Ben's in Milwaukee.  We can all use our talent of holiness to serve and pray.  Avery

Auction News
The Auction for Education Games committee is looking for help with our Wine Pull and the Gift Card Wall.  Please consider donating a bottle of wine or a gift card (any denomination of gift card, but ideally $25 value or more).  These gift cards can be from places you frequent: gas stations, coffee shops, Target/Wal-mart, restaurants, grocery stores, the mall, etc.  Purchase the gift card from SCRIP and you will earn money toward your tuition for next school year! Please drop off these gift cards and/or bottles of wine in the school office.  We appreciate your help and generosity.

Home & School Volunteers
Thank you to Kelly Krause and to all of the parents who volunteered for our Scholastic Book Fair in support of the SMV Library. We appreciate your flexibility in making this event happen during a week of crazy weather. Thank you to Amy & Peter Henry and our chili making contestants. It was another fabulous Chili Chomp and we appreciate you all putting on a great party. And thank you to Paula Horning for an afternoon of fun at New Berlin Bowl. We always have H&S volunteers working behind the scenes and we appreciate you all planning our upcoming events!

Please watch for an invitation from Sign-Up Genius requesting your help with our upcoming Auction for Education. We will need everyone's help for a successful evening. In addition, we are still in search of a few important volunteer roles for this Spring:
  1. We are still in need of 7th grade parent to help us celebrate our graduates by planning the 8th Grade Graduation Reception/Dance.
  2. We need a 5th grade parent/team to plan Field Day, which is a ½ day event this year.
  3. We are looking for a parent to lead our participation in the Elm Grove Memorial Day Parade.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Rebecca Mindy or any member of the H&S Board. Thank you!!!
Positively
 SMV

As soon as I started DSHA, I could tell that there was a distinct difference between the people that had a quality education in grade school and the people who were struggling. From the start, SMV proved to give us an immense head start, and the first month showed to be all review. Now, with a semester done of high school, I can still feel the difference that St. Mary's gave me. I still hold onto the habits I learned, like showing my work and keeping good notes, and when a new topic is introduced, I remember learning the basics of it at SMV. The education I got was stellar, and I am truly blessed that I got the opportunity to spend ten years here at St. Mary's Visitation.

- Sofia, a 9th grader at DSHA

And with that you will find a few things that are Positively SMV!

Track
I am excited about the upcoming track season. A note will be going out soon to determine how many athletes are interested. However, I will need at least 2 assistant track coaches to make this season possible. Practices are Tuesdays & Thursdays from 5:30 - 7:00 at Brookfield East during April and May. There are typically 4 meets with events Friday evenings and Saturdays. Please contact me if you can assist or for more information about what is involved with coaching.
