Principal Notes                                               November 29, 2018

Dear Families,

Advent is a time of waiting, a season to prepare and to wait for Emmanuel: God with us. As an "Advent People" we are called to prepare a place for God -- at work, at home, at school, in our relationships and in our hearts.  Here at school we are doing many things to prepare. Our Advent theme this year is "Following the Star to Christ-mas!" Stars will abound in SMV this Advent! Ask your student what is happening in their classrooms and what they are doing to prepare. Click here for more information.

We are thrilled to announce that we will be offering all day K3 for the 2019-2020 school year. The time will be 7:45-2:45 with an option to leave at 11:30. Join us for two, three, four or five days. Price per day/year will be $1150. Click here for the registration form.  Please call the school office with any questions.

Just a reminder, your 2018-2019 registration is due on Friday, December 14 th . There will be a $25.00 late charge if received after this date. Please get your forms in. We are already getting calls about what openings we have for next year.

The 8th graders will be hosting a Mars Day on Friday, December 7th from 9:30-11:00 in the gym. Please come and take a look at the map and the habitats the students are building.

Don't forget, the Christmas Concert is Tuesday, December 11 th at 1:30 and  6:30 in the gym. Students in K4- 5 th and the band students will be performing.

On Wednesday, December 12th, we are having an all school celebration honoring Our Lady of Guadalupe. The 6 th grade will be presenting this at 2:00 p.m.  All are welcome.

This is our 4 th  year having Home and School  sponsor Holiday Treasures on December 18 th and 19 th. Your students will have an opportunity to do their Christmas shopping here at school.  More information will be coming soon.

The 2 nd graders will be presenting the Living Nativity on Friday, December 21st following Mass.   There is early dismissal on this day at 11:00. This is the last day of school before the Christmas break.

This year, 6th-8th grade SMV students will have some new music opportunities! Students in junior high will be able to participate in the Wisconsin School Music Association Solo & Ensemble festival in the spring. If your junior high student loves to sing or play an instrument, consider this opportunity to perform for a rating and judge's comments at the festival! This is a great chance for students to perform a solo or small ensemble and learn from an experienced music teacher. The festival will take place on a Saturday between February and April - more details to come after we are scheduled for a festival date. Please click here for more information about Solo & Ensemble. Families will pay a fee of around $10 per student entry.

6th - 8th graders can also audition for the WSMA Middle Level State Honors Project. Students may audition to be part of the state band, choir, or orchestra. This process is very competitive, as students are selected from all over the state of Wisconsin. Please click here for more information about the state honors project. The audition fee per student is about $23, and there are additional fees for accepted students. Mrs. Kesler will register students by early February, and these auditions will take place in April. The state band, choir, and orchestra concerts will be held in October 2019.

Mr. Klunk (SMV band director) and Mrs. Kesler (K4-8 music teacher) will be helping students select music and prepare for the festival and state honors project auditions - please contact Mrs. Kesler at with any questions or if your child is interested in signing up!

If you have any questions or concerns, please give me a call.  I am happy to help.

Lost and Found
Parents please make sure to check out the Lost and Found table in the school atrium.  Anything left after December 21 will be donated to the SMV Thrift shop.
SMV Library
Now that the first quarter is over I would like to encourage families to catch up on returning library books. Typically books are due one week after checking them out. It is very time consuming to send reminders so I just continue to encourage everyone to bring back what they have each week, or request to renew it. Thanks for your help with this.

In Appreciation Fund
As you are getting ready for Christmas, don't forget to send in a check for the In Appreciation Fund if you would like to donate!!!!!

Remember, all of the money that is collected will be equally divided between every SMV school staff member that works with our children. This way we can thank each and every person that helps contribute to our children's well rounded Catholic education!!!!

The collection ends December 7th! Thank you!

We would like to give a shout out to the SMV Scrip Program run by Mrs. Maren Kleinmann. This program is an amazing opportunity to receive money back towards your child's tuition.  It is easy to get started and the money adds up quickly!  As Mrs. Katy Conners said, "We love scrip!!  We use it to buy anything that has a big rebate.  Scripnow is easy to use, as well as grabbing gift cards from the office.  We earned such a great rebate last year that it nearly covered ALL of our k4 tuition!!"
Thank you Mrs. Kleinmann for volunteering your time to run the SMV Scrip program and great job Conners family!

And with that you will find a few things that are Positively SMV!
