Principal Notes                                               September 27, 2018

Dear Families,

We have an exciting year of musical performances ahead!

On Tuesday, December 11th, students in 4K - 5th grades will perform  Carol and the Belles for this year's Christmas concert. The band will also play during this performance. Families will have two chances to see the show at 1:30 and 6:30 pm. Mrs. Kesler will be looking for some junior high students to help with this performance - stay tuned for more information coming soon!
In the spring, students will perform Disney's Beauty and the Beast Jr. from the Broadway Jr. series! We are thrilled to be presenting this show on Tuesday, May 14.  Watch for more details, including grade level specific information and junior high auditions later in the school year!

Fr. Peter and Fr. Gibson will be having a cycle of regular visits to the classrooms in Grades 1-8.  This semester Fr. Peter will be seeing the even grades and Fr. Gibson will see the odd grades. Next semester they will switch.

We have a calendar change.  November 9th, was scheduled to have our first Grandparents/VIP (Very Important Person) Day. The date has been changed to May 10th.  Please mark your calendars. More information will go out later.

I subscribe to a blog called Tech Talk Tuesdays. This weeks article talked about Apple's latest operating system, iOS 12's new Screen Time.   It's a new feature that helps prevent excessive screen time for youth.  Click on the link for more information. They also have a library of very useful topics and tips.

The Archdiocese of Milwaukee is conducting a research study to better understand the decision-making process that parents go through when selecting a high school for their child. They are asking families that have a 4th-8th grader to complete a brief survey.  The survey takes 10-12 minutes. Thank you for taking the time to do this. Click here

Come one and all to the Annual Pet Blessing on Thursday, October 4 at 6:30 pm in the gardens in front of the church atrium. Make sure that all animals are on leashes or in proper cages or containers to insure a safe pet blessing.

Saturday, October 13th is our Annual Trivia Night. There is still time to put a group together for this fun night.  New families, we would love to see you there. Once again, our own Mr. Falk, 6 th -8 th grade math teacher (and who appeared on Jeopardy nine times) will be hosting.

Just a reminder as you look at your calendar for October.   Next week school is closed on Thursday and Friday,  October 4th and 5 th .    These days are calendared as professional development time for the teachers. On October 5 th we will be going downtown and joining all of the teachers in the Milwaukee Archdiocese for our convention.

With the short week next week, there will be no Virtual Backpack.  Look for us again on October 11th.

If you have any questions or concerns, please give me a call.  I am happy to help.

Have a wonderful week.

Home & School Volunteers
Thank you to all of the Volunteers who helped make the Parish Picnic and our Culver's Dining Out night a success. We are also so appreciative of those of you that are hard at work on upcoming events, like this week's Dance A Thon!

Many thanks,
Rebecca Mindy

We also have a some upcoming volunteer opportunities!

Publicity: H&S needs someone to promote events in a coordinated way. This is a Board position designed to work with event chairs to get the word out on upcoming events. H&S meets 1  Monday  per month.

Holiday Treasures : We are looking for a co-chair to run Holiday Treasures. Erin Lampe has agreed to take the lead, but she could use someone to help her out. This is a fun event that takes place during the school day on December 18 & 19. The students get into the spirit of giving by shopping for Christmas gifts for friends a family. Set-up can occur anytime on December 17th (day or evening) and almost all volunteer slots have been filled. Please consider being Santa's helper at SMV. This is a great option for someone looking to get involved.

Junior High Forensics: Forensics is a wonderful opportunity for our students to practice public speaking, develop critical thinking skills, and gain confidence. We are looking for a parent, grandparent, alumni or parish volunteer (or team) to coach our Junior High students, handle the administration and scheduling for meets, and coordinate volunteers for judging and supervision at meets. Practices have typically occurred after school and meets occur at various public and private schools in the area  on Friday afternoon/evenings and Saturdays in January and February.

Mother Son Event (Tentative): New, low-key event, possibly late Fall. An idea has already been discussed, but we need someone to take the lead on setting up the event. This is a great option for someone looking to get involved.

Thank you, to all the parents who have signed up to be class helpers during the Dance-A-Thon.
We are still in need of volunteers.  This is a one-day event.  Think of all the time you'll save not having to deliver cookie dough! You signing up to help for an hour or two will go a long way for this event. Thanks in advance.
