It has come to my attention that students are getting emails from their parents during the school day on their school google account. Students are not allowed to use their school email for personal  uses. Also, they are not allowed to check their email during the day. If you need to reach your child during the day, call the school office and we will relay a message to them.

There are only two days left until the Souls for Education Walk at Mount Mary University.  Please stop by school before the walk, we will be serving coffee and donuts starting at 8:45. We have arranged for a bus to come to school and to take the first 60 people that would like to ride it. The bus will leave at 9:15. It will leave Mount Mary at 12:00 to take you back to school.   When you arrive at Mount Mary that day look for the signs that say Deanery 4. I will be there with a large SMV flag. Please pray for good weather for the day! Click here to read about a St. Mary's Parish family who works behind the scenes at the Walk--page 4.

Friday, October 26th   from 5:00-8:00 is our annual Spooks and Spoofs celebration.  This is a Halloween party for all ages. Come and enjoy the evening with your SMV friends. If you are new to the school, you don't want to miss this.  We are still in need of volunteers. We only need an hour or two of your time to make this a wonderful evening for the children.

Everyday I see all the work that is going on behind the scenes here at St. Mary's.There is never a day that parents are not in the school working on the next project. It takes a village to make things happen. You are our ambassadors within and outside the walls of St. Mary's. When we present our school positively it allows us to live our mission and be a strong presence in the community. Thank you for all you do.

If you have any questions or concerns, please give me a call.  I am happy to help.

Have a wonderful week.

Looking for your child's class website?
This is how you can find it. Go to click on Learn With Us scroll down to Quick Links and click on Faculty & Staff.  Find your child's teacher click on the class website.  To make it really easy, once you have the class website up book mark it or put it into your favorites.

Thank you Home & School
Thanks to our Home and School Association, a best practice has been brought to our school's Physical Education curriculum - the use of pedometers to measure student activity!  It's common knowledge that our children need 60 minutes of activity a day for good health. Possibly not as well known is that a portion of that time needs to be moderate to vigorous physical activity (M.V.P.A.). All students have the ability, it's not genetically controlled, to increase their activity level.  Students in grades 5th - 8th have been using them weekly since school began.

SMV Christmas Concert Information
For this year's Christmas concert, students in 4K through 5th grade will perform the mini-musical Carol and the Belles . 4th and 5th graders will have the opportunity to audition for main character roles during music classes this week and next week. Our musical is set in 1954, so all students in 4K-1st and 3rd-5th grades should start planning a 1950's outfit for the Christmas concert. This "costume" can be very simple - such as jeans and a white t-shirt for boys and jeans with a sweater and scarf for girls. Please click here if you need some more inspiration! Mrs. Kesler will speak with students in main character roles about costumes. Students in 2nd grade should plan to wear their living nativity costumes for the birth of Jesus scene in our musical. Mrs. Kesler and Ms. Koepke will talk more about this with 2nd grade soon!

Calling all parent artists! We are looking for parent volunteers to help paint our set for the Christmas show. If you are interested and could be available on a weekday between 12:00 pm and 3:30 pm, please email Mrs. Kesler at Thank you!

Lost Stroller

Home & School Volunteers
Spooks & Spoofs: We need your help to make this SMV tradition a success! Spooks & Spoofs is our annual Halloween party, complete with a costume contest, haunted house, dancing, games, a bouncy house and more. We have volunteer opportunities on the night of the event and both during the day and evening before the event. Please check out the Sign Up Genius to find time that fits into your schedule. We hope to see you there!!!
Junior High Forensics: We are looking for 2 more people to join Brigid Harmeyer on a team of 3 to lead our Forensics program and coach our students. We hope to be able to continue this program at SMV, but we'll need your support. Forensics is a wonderful opportunity for our students to practice public speaking, develop critical thinking skills, and gain confidence. Practices have typically occurred after school and meets occur at various public and private schools in the area on Friday afternoon/evenings and Saturdays in January and February. Please contact Rebecca Mindy or Brigid Harmeyer if you may be interested or have questions as you consider this opportunity.

In Appreciation Fund
For the VERY organized parents in this group, we wanted to give you a heads up that the IN APPRECIATION FUND will be back again this year!!!!
This is a VERY easy way to give a holiday gift to the SMV faculty and staff.
We will be collecting funds in November and early December and they will be distributed between ALL SMV staff members!!
Any amount is appreciated!
Your family's last name will be included in the cards we give to each recipient!!
There will be more information coming in the virtual backpack in the next month!
The good news is.... you have one less person to buy a Christmas present for!
If you have any questions please ask either Rebecca Mindy or Amy Van Ells.

We wanted to take time to highlight two SMV moms that have been working very hard lately, donating much of their time to make SMV a great place to be!

The first shout out goes to Mrs. Jennifer Zils.  Mrs. Zils was the brain behind the new SMV Dance a thon.  This fundraiser was a HUGE success and would not have been possible without the many, many hours she put into planning this event.  The best part- we all get out of selling magazines and cookie dough because of her success!  In addition, our younger students will now have access to a new, awesome, science lab! Thank you Mrs. Zils for your dedication to our school.

We would also like to give an SMV thank you to Mrs. Tina Crichton.  Mrs. Crichton has taken on the chairperson role for the upcoming Soles for Education walk.  This event takes place this Saturday and is full of energy and spirit for SMV.  Mrs. Crichton has spent her time over the past weeks promoting this event, organizing a bus for transport and planning for donuts and coffee at the SMV parking lot pre party!  Thank you Mrs. Crichton for sharing your time to plan this event for all of SMV.
And with that you will find a few things that are Positively SMV!
