As we are being reminded about the freedom that we enjoy in the United States, we gather for worship to celebrate the spiritual freedom from sin, death and the devil that we have because of Jesus. If you have questions about the ministry, please stop by our Welcome Center. Feel free to check out anything that might interest you in this eNews or on our website: www.st-matthew.org
Lifting of COVID Restrictions in Worship
All COVID restrictions have been lifted in worship, with these exceptions: We will continue for a while to distribute communion elements in bags as you enter worship. And there will be a section on the right for those who want to wear a mask and social distance, like children who can’t yet be vaccinated. Thanks for your prayers, patience and love as we make this transition.

Ministry Highlights
  • Approval of Non-Called Teacher Proposal Last Sunday the Congregational Assembly approved the Non-Called Teacher Proposal along with the proposed changes to the Constitution and Bylaws.
  • Pray for Mrs. Alicia Brown's Divine Call Discernment Teacher Alicia Brown received a Divine Call to Our Savior Evangelical School in Hartland. Please keep her in your prayers as she seeks God’s will on this.
  • The July Mission of the Month is supporting out High School and College Mission Trips to Southeast Ohio partnering with Outreach Ministries. Our students have been traveling to the greater Caldwell, Ohio area since 2008 working on projects primarily serving Senior Citizens. Some of the past projects have included building wheel chair ramps, painting of homes, landscaping, massive cleanups, rebuilding decks, interior home repairs, sorting back to school supplies to be given away, and much more.
  • Everyday we serve is a new adventure and often involves traveling in a 50 mile radius serving Seniors living by themselves in remote locations with no immediate family that are able to visit or help them.
  • For 2021 our High School Team will be in Ohio July 18-24 and our College Age Team will be there August 1-7. How can you help and support this vital work of sharing Christ's love. First please pray for our teams asking for God’s protection, good weather conditions, and safe travel. Other more tangible ways to support the efforts of our students include donating any of the following items (please contact John Welte as the list constantly changes):
  • Shovels
  • Rakes
  • Misc yard tools for trimming trees, bushes
  • Electrical Cords
  • Paint Supplies
  • Electric Trimmers
  • Walmart Gift Cards-there are no Home Depots or Lowes so we are at Walmart daily for everything we need
  • Speedway Gas Cards-in one week of driving we will use over $1000 of fuel
  • In the coming weeks read more about what a normal day serving is like and hear from past participants their own first hand experiences. You can also go the Youth Group Facebook page HERE to see photos from past mission trips. If you have additional questions or want to learn more please contact John Welte.
  • Elected Officers Installation July 11 We will install our elected officers of St. Matthew in all our worship services on July 11. This includes members of the Executive Board (including newly elected secretary Lachelle Laney), Foundation Ministry chairperson of the School Board Ministry. Special thanks to our outgoing secretary Kari Gonzales and Foundation Ministry member Bob McGhee!
  • Summer Family Nights Update Our first Summer Family Night - Let Your Light Shine! - was a shining success! The rain moved away and everyone had a fantastic time with the CAYA food truck, Oakland County Rec's "Go Fish", Frisbee golf course, cornhole and other yard games, fun crafts, music with Miss Pomroy and our famous VBS tradition with Mr. Welte & friend!
  • Thanks to our Volunteers who helped make the evening a wonderful success! We could not have done it without you! And thanks to everyone who came to enjoy the evening!
  • We are looking forward to our next Summer Family Night on July 13! If you're in town, please join us! Make sure to mark your calendars for July 13 and August 17.
  • Blood Drive July 17, 2021 - 9:00am to 3:00pm - Wixom Campus Our next blood drive at Wixom is on Saturday July 17 from 9 AM to 3:00 PM. Our goal is to have at least 26 people sign up to give blood on that day. Your gift of blood can help save up to 3 lives. If you are willing to help, please sign up at the Red Cross website at redcrossblood.org (sponsor code:saintmatthewwixom) or email me with a preferred time. Thanks! - Marc Wiliford, jmwiliford@ameritech.net

  • Please note that masks are now optional for all, but in accordance with the CDC, masks are recommended for unvaccinated individuals.
  • Also, as we are still looking to fill positions and take needed vacations, we are thankful for your patience! What a blessing it has been to serve you during this time and I continue to pray for our St. Matthew family as we enter into the summer months. Thanks for your continued support, and I pray that your summer is a time of renewal, filled with quality time in the Word, in prayer, with loved ones, and showing God's love and light in your neighborhoods, workplaces, to the world. -Gail
