Rector's Corner: Upcoming Liturgical Changes
You will notice several changes and adjustments in our worship services in October. The first change will be that instead of the Collect for Purity that follows the Opening Salutation, we will pray the Collect for an Election. The worship committee and I felt it was important for our faith community to pray for this upcoming election. Regardless of your politics, we hope everyone will say this prayer as part of our worship and ask God for guidance and peace as we approach November 5. You will remember that the parish prayed a collect for the calling of a new rector during the search process, which will be similar. We will say this prayer through November 10.
A second change will be the Prayers of the People. The petitions we pray will reflect our thanksgiving and gratitude for all God gives us. Our stewardship campaign begins this coming Sunday, October 6, and our theme, “Walking in Love,” reflects our awareness of God’s blessings and how we express our gratitude through our prayers, both individually and corporately.
The last change will be the use of Eucharistic Prayer C. We have been using Prayer A since Eastertide, and as we move into fall and the change of seasons, Prayer C provides excellent illustrations of the natural order and God’s creation. You will recall that we used Prayer C during Lent because of its penitential nature and the call and response from the congregation. One of the beautiful aspects of the Eucharistic Prayers is that we may pray them during certain seasons and that they may fit into parts of the year. I love how we can hear the exact words differently throughout the year!
The structure of the liturgy will remain the same as we continue through the last part of Ordinary Time. I hope you will join me as we worship God with different words. If you have any questions, please let me know.
Peace,
Fr. Tim
