2026-2027 School Year Calendar

Dear St. Michael-St. Gabriel Families and Friends, 

As we begin a new school year, we want to stress how important communication is between a child’s home and the school. This past weekend, you should have received both a text message and an email reminding you of the first day of school. If you did not receive one or both of these communication pieces, please reach out to us so that we can confirm your phone number and email so that you can receive messages from the school.  Also, only a third of our families have opted into receiving text messages from the school. Often this is the easiest way for us to communicate with you, so please choose to opt into receiving the SchoolMessenger texts from the school. If you need to opt-in to receive these text messages, please see the flyer below in this newsletter. 

Remember, if your child will not be in school, please call the main office at 317-926-0516 to report the absence. If you need to pick up your child for a doctor’s appointment or because your child has gotten sick, please come to the main office to sign out your child. Parents are not allowed to simply go to the classroom to get their student. We appreciate your cooperation with this.

We also want to remind families that they need to come into the parking lot at dismissal to pick up their child. Parents should not be parking alongside the church, between the rectory and church, at Cardinal Ritter High School, or in front of the rectory or Advancement offices. This is for the safety of our students and the adults, as we do not want cars backing up into oncoming traffic. Please help us in modeling the correct behavior. Also, PreK parents may begin picking up their children at 2:00 p.m. on regular dismissal days.

Finally, if you are utilizing our aftercare services, you need to complete an aftercare registration packet. Those packets are available in the main office.

Queridos Padres y Amigos de San Miguel-San Gabriel,

Al comenzar un nuevo año escolar, queremos destacar la importancia de la comunicación entre el hogar del niño y la escuela. El fin de semana pasado, deberían haber recibido un mensaje de texto y un correo electrónico recordándoles el primer día de clases. Si no ha recibido una o ambas de estas comunicaciones, comuníquese con nosotros para que podamos confirmar su número de teléfono y correo electrónico para que pueda recibir mensajes de la escuela. Además, solo la tercera parte de nuestras familias han aceptado la opción de recibir mensajes de texto de la escuela. A menudo, esta es la forma más fácil de comunicarnos con ustedes, así que por favor, opten por recibir los mensajes de texto de SchoolMessenger de la escuela. Si necesita suscribirse para recibir estos mensajes de texto, por favor consulte el folleto que aparece más abajo en este boletín.

Esto es por la seguridad de nuestros estudiantes y los adultos, ya que queremos evitar que los autos retrocedan el tráfico en sentido contrario. Por favor, ayúdenos a modelar el comportamiento correcto. Además, los padres de PreK pueden comenzar a recoger a sus hijos a las 2:00 p.m. en los días de salida regular.

Finalmente, si está utilizando nuestros servicios de cuidado posterior, debe llenar un paquete de inscripción de cuidado posterior. Esos paquetes están disponibles en la oficina principal.

Next Thursday, August 20th, is our Back to School Night from 6:00-7:00 p.m. This is an opportunity for you to more formally meet your child’s homeroom teacher and hear his/her expectations for the year. We ask teachers to have one session from 6:00-6:25 p.m. and a second session from 6:30-6:55 p.m. All parents of junior high students, however, will meet in the school cafeteria, as the junior high teachers will meet collectively at that time. Again, two sessions will be available here as well. Note that parents who attend these sessions will receive one service hour toward their five required service hours for the year. Be sure to check-in with your child’s teacher to note your attendance to receive your hour of credit. 

El próximo jueves 20 de agosto, es nuestra noche de regreso a la escuela de 6:00 a 7:00 p.m. Esta es una oportunidad para que conozca de manera más formal al maestro de aula de su hijo y escuche sus expectativas para el año. Les pedimos a los maestros que tengan una sesión de 6:00 a 6:25 p.m. y una segunda sesión de 6:30 a 6:55 p.m. Sin embargo, todos los padres de los estudiantes de secundaria se reunirán en la cafetería de la escuela, ya que los maestros de secundaria se reunirán colectivamente en ese momento. Nuevamente, también habrá dos sesiones disponibles. Tenga en cuenta que los padres que asistan a estas sesiones recibirán una hora de servicio de las cinco horas de servicio requeridas para el año. JOB OPENING

Currently, St. Michael-St. Gabriel has the following position open. If you are interested, please contact Mrs. Ramos at lramos@indyarchangel.org. 

Bilingual Aftercare Worker: This is a part-time position. The worker will supervise students in Grades K-8 from 3:00-5:30 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays and from 2:00-5:30 p.m. on Wednesdays, as most Wednesdays are early release days. Workers must be able to work all five days and speak Spanish. A two-hour training through Indy Parks to serve our aftercare meals will also be required. 

VACANTE DE EMPLEO

Trabajador Bilingüe de Cuidado Posterior: Este puesto es de medio tiempo. El trabajador supervisará a los estudiantes de los grados de  kínder hasta octavo grado de 3:00 a 5:30 los lunes, martes, jueves y viernes, y de 2:00 a 5:30 los miércoles, ya que la mayoría de los miércoles son días de salida temprana. Los trabajadores deben poder trabajar los cinco días y hablar español. También se requerirá una capacitación de dos horas impartida por Indy Parks para servir las comidas del programa de cuidado posterior a la jornada escolar.
