“I will praise you, Lord, with all my heart; I will declare all your wondrous deeds." Psalm 9:2
Message from the Principal
Dear St. Michael-St. Gabriel Families and Friends,

Progress report grades were made available online this past Wednesday, and it is important that parents sit down with their children and review these grades. While some will find that poor grades may be due to not understanding the material, we find that many students are just not completing their assignments. Because students in Grades 3-8 all have a Google Classroom account, feel free to ask your child to see his or her digital folders and see what may have been submitted. Students in Grades 3-8 also have IXL and Achieve 3000 assignments to complete each week, and while you may not necessarily see these assignments being submitted through their Google Classroom, please see that your student is completing this work. These supplemental exercises help us to better target areas in which students need help.

As you know, next week is a very short week for us, as we are only in school Monday and Tuesday. The school office will be open from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday in case you have any busy to do with us, but the office will be closed Thursday and Friday next week.

When we return from Thanksgiving break, students in Grades 3-8 will be completing their NWEA growth assessment. The data from this exam will help us to see the growth your child has made in math and reading since taking the exam in September. This information helps us to better see areas in which students may need help while also showing us the potential a child has to excel in these two areas.

Final exams are just around the corner for our Junior High students. On November 29th and 30th, we will be distributing exam cards to all students in Grades 6-8. Junior High students will be required to have an exam card to take their finals. These cards indicate that all financial obligations are up-to-date and students are cleared to take their finals. If you need to check whether your child’s account is in good standing, please contact Mrs. Areal at mareal@indyarchangel.org

Finally, as we have seen a little snow this past weekend, please be sure that we have your correct email address and phone number. If we should have to call a two-hour delay or cancel classes, we will use our SchoolMessenger communication system to contact you and also send notifications to local news stations. Note: Please do not confuse our school with St. Michael in Greenfield or Brookville, Indiana. You should see “St. Michael-St. Gabriel” or “St. Michael the Archangel” in Marion County as our listing, depending on the television stations.

God Bless,
Mrs. Ramos
Faith & Service
Prayer for Students

Lord our God,
in your wisdom and love
you surround us with the mysteries of the universe.
Send your Spirit upon these students
and fill them with your wisdom and blessings.
Grant that they may
devote themselves to their studies
and draw ever closer to you,
the source of all knowledge. We ask this through Christ our Lord.

R/. Amen.
Announcements
AN ABUNDANT THANKSGIVING

Thank you to the entire St. Michael’s community and the St. Michael-St. Gabriel grade school for such a generous response to the St. Michael annual parish’s St. Vincent DePaul (SVDP) Society sponsored food appeal. This year’s donations by both parishioners and the school may have been the greatest outpouring yet in our 14-15 year history of Thanksgiving Food Drives to benefit the SVDP Client Choice Food Pantry, and we have yet to tally the cash/check contributions made in lieu of food donations.

Thanks again to all of you for such an abundance of help. It is if each of you understood Pope Francis’ purpose in dedicating the weekend of November 13-14 to focus on the needs of the poor. The St. Michael’s parish and school community is trying so hard to do its part.

Thanks again from all those that will benefit from your generosity. It is hard to estimate how many will benefit from well over the ton of food donated. May all of us be twice blessed this Thanksgiving for our efforts to act as the hands of Christ in our community response to the needs of the underserved.

Bob LaEace

There will be
no SMSG newsletter next Friday, November 26th.

Christmas Feast

On Friday, December 17th, our entire school will gather together in the gym for our annual Christmas feast. It has been a few years since we have been able to have the entire school together for this tradition, and we are happy to bring it back. If you would like to volunteer for this event, please click on the link below:

Remember that all volunteers must be Safe and Sacred or Safe Parish trained. Please contact Mrs. Ramos for information on training, if you need it.

8th Grade Trash Bag Sales

It’s that time of year when we know many of you are beginning to bag up your leaves and clean out your gardens. If you are interested in purchasing trash bags from the school office, we are selling rolls for $11 a piece. All proceeds go to fund the eighth grade class trip. An initial order form was sent home with all students this week, if you are interested in purchasing any.  We do sell these bags throughout the year as well, so you may consider purchasing some in the spring as well.
Your 8th grade student may be eligible for a college scholarship! Indiana’s 21st Century Scholars program offers income-eligible Hoosier students up to four years of paid tuition at an eligible Indiana college or university after they graduate from high school, dependent upon financial need.
