Dear St. Michael-St. Gabriel Families and Friends,
We want to thank everyone who supported our Hispanic Heritage Celebration last week. Even more importantly, we wish to thank the many families who volunteered their time and various food and drink items to make this celebration such a memorable time for us all. From the volunteers to those who attended, THANK YOU so much for helping to bring our community together!
Now that the weather is starting to turn a little colder, please make sure that your child has a coat or sweatshirt for recess. We do have some uniform sweaters and sweatshirts available for purchase through the main office. Please reach out to us to see what sizes may be available.
For the next two weeks, beginning next week, we will be displaying an “ofrenda” near the main office. An “ofenda” is a Spanish word meaning “altar or offering, often displayed during the traditional Mexican holiday of Día de los Muertos.” Students and families are encouraged to bring pictures of their loved ones who have passed as a way of remembering them. Pictures may be scanned and emailed to Mrs. Ramos, or they may also be brought to the office.
Lastly, on Monday, October 27th, students celebrating a birthday in October may bring in a small treat to share with their classmates. They may dress down on this day as well.

Queridos Padres y Amigos de San Miguel-San Gabriel,
Queremos agradecer a todos los que nos apoyaron en nuestra Celebración de la Herencia Hispana la semana pasada. Y aún más importante, queremos agradecer a todas las familias quienes donaron su tiempo y diversos platillos de comida y bebidas para hacer de esta celebración un momento maravilloso para todos nosotros. Desde los voluntarios hasta todos los que asistieron, MUCHAS GRACIAS por toda su ayuda y por unir a nuestra comunidad!
Ahora que el clima empieza a ponerse un poco más frío, por favor asegúrese de que su hijo tenga una chamarra o sudadera para el receso. Tenemos algunos suéteres y sudaderas de uniforme disponibles para comprar a través de la oficina principal. Por favor comuníquese con nosotros para ver qué tallas están disponibles.
Durante dos semanas,iniciando la próxima semana, estaremos exhibiendo una ofrenda cerca de la oficina principal. Una “ofrenda” significa en español “un altar o ofrecimiento", regularmente se exhiben durante la festividad del Día de Muertos, una tradición mexicana. Se les anima a los estudiantes y a las familias a traer fotos de sus seres queridos fallecidos como forma de recordarlos. Las fotos se pueden escanear y enviar por correo electrónico a la Sra. Ramos, o también se pueden llevar a la oficina.
Por último, el lunes 27 de octubre, los alumnos que celebren su cumpleaños durante el mes de octubre pueden traer un pequeño snack para compartir con sus compañeros de clase. También pueden vestirse de forma informal ese día. No uniforme.

PTA Meeting
Our PTA Meeting will be Wednesday, October 29th from 6:00-7:00 p.m. in the school cafeteria. We will discuss our upcoming Grandparents Days and our Fall Book Fair, as well as discuss a few of the activities taking place in December.

Nuestra reunión de PTA será el miércoles, 29 de octubre de 6:00-7:00 p.m. en la cafetería de la escuela. Trataremos acerca de nuestros próximos eventos del Dia de los Abuelos y la Feria del Libro de Otoño, así como también planearemos algunas de las actividades que se realizarán en Diciembre.

CANNED FOOD DRIVE
October 21st-November 6th
This week we kicked off our Canned Food Drive campaign. Students are asked to bring in non-perishable food items to help others in need. Suggested items include: canned fruits and vegetables, instant mashed potatoes, canned or dried soups, ramen noodles, pasta, canned or plastic jars of spaghetti sauce, canned meats or tuna, canned or dried beans, and cereal. All items can be taken to your child’s homeroom class, and then they will bring these to Mass on November 5th and 6th where they will be donated to the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
CAMPAÑA DE RECOLECCIÓN DE ALIMENTOS ENLATADOS
Del 21 de octubre - 6 de noviembre
Esta semana comenzamos nuestra campaña de recolección de alimentos enlatados. Se les pide a los estudiantes que traigan alimentos enlatados no perecederos para ayudar a otros que lo necesiten. Los artículos sugeridos incluyen: frutas y verduras enlatadas, puré de papa instantáneo, sopas enlatadas o secas, fideos ramen, pastas, salsa de espagueti enlatada o en frascos de plástico, carne o atún enlatados, frijoles enlatados o secos y cereales. Todos los artículos se pueden llevar a la clase de su hijo, y luego los llevaran a la misa del 5 y 6 de noviembre, donde se donaran a la Sociedad de San Vicente de Paúl.

GRANDPARENTS’ DAYS
Once again, we will be hosting two days for our grandparents or grandfriends, who are individuals who may serve as that mentor or adult in your child’s life. Please note: If you have a grandchild in Grade 4 or 5, please sign-up for November 14th, as students will be on a field trip November 13th. QUARTER-ZIP SWEATSHIRTS FOR SALE
We have light gray quarter-zip sweatshirts available for our Junior High students. These may be worn on regular school days, not just spirit wear days. The cost is $30 per sweatshirt, and students may purchase these from the main office. We have a limited stock right now, but we will purchase more, if we sell out. All sizes are adult sizes.
SUDADERAS DE CIERRE-TRES CUARTOS EN VENTA
Tenemos sudaderas de cierre-tres cuartos disponibles para los estudiantes de Secundaria. Esta la pueden utilizar en cualquier día regular, no solo en los días de espíritu. El costo es de $30 por sudadera, y los estudiantes pueden comprarla en la oficina principal. Tenemos un inventario limitado en existencia por el momento, pero compraremos más, si se agotan. Todas las tallas son para adultos.

PICTURE RETAKES
If your student was absent for our original picture day, or if you would like his or her picture retaken, Strawbridge will be back on November 7th to take pictures.

JOB OPENING / VACANTE DE EMPLEO
Bilingual Aftercare Workers: This is a part-time position. Workers supervise students in Grades K-8 from 3:00-5:30 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays and from 2:00-5:30 p.m. on Wednesdays, as most Wednesdays are early release days. Workers must be able to work all five days and speak Spanish. If you are interested in any of these, please contact Mrs. Ramos at lramos@indyarchangel.org.
Trabajadores Bilingües de Cuidado Posterior: Este puesto es de medio tiempo. Los trabajadores deben supervisar a los estudiantes de los grados de kínder hasta octavo grado de 2:00 a 5:30 los lunes, martes, jueves y viernes, y de 2:00 a 5:30 los miércoles, ya que la mayoría de los miércoles son días de salida temprana. 8th Grade Trash Bag Sales
It’s that time of year when we know many of you are beginning to bag up your leaves and clean out your gardens. If you are interested in purchasing trash bags from the school office, we are selling rolls for $11 a piece. All proceeds go to fund the eighth grade class trip. An initial order form was sent home with all students this week, if you are interested in purchasing any. We do sell these bags throughout the year as well, so you may consider purchasing some in the spring as well.

Box Tops for Education
In case you haven’t heard, the collection of Box Tops is now moving away from the traditional clipping of Box Tops to now scanning your receipt! The new and improved Box Tops mobile app uses technology to scan your store receipt to find participating products and then instantly adds the Box Tops to our school’s earnings online. Simply go to your app store and download the Box Tops for Education app. Then choose St. Michael School (3352 West 30th Street, Indianapolis). It’s easy and saves you time!
