A Message From The Principal

Dear St. Michael-St. Gabriel Families and Friends,

Students are required to be in the proper school uniform, which includes SMSG logo tops and bottoms. The only items that do not have a logo are the plaid skirts and jumpers. Now that we are seven weeks into the school year, teachers have been asked to send home warning letters for any student who is not in compliance with the school dress code. After a warning letter is given, then a student will receive a referral for not adhering to the proper uniform code. If you are still waiting on an item, please communicate that with the school office, but most items have already been shipped to families.  Additionally, we have found that many of our junior high ladies are wearing skirts that are too short. Families will need to order a new uniform, or students will need to wear tights under their skirts.

We are now only two weeks away from our annual Walk-A-Thon, and we still have quite a way to go to meet our goals. As a school, we have only reached one of our incentive goals. These goals include extra recess, a week of no homework, and our dress down week. We know these are things that our students look forward to, but we cannot award these without reaching our goals. Remember that our Walk-A-Thon provides the activities and opportunities that our PTA would like to do throughout the year, such as our Christmas Feast and our Field Days at the end of the year. Please talk with your child and see how he or she can help us reach our goals. Our next Walk-A-Thon dress down day is Wednesday, September 30th. For $2 students may dress in pajamas or sweats.

Students celebrating a September birthday may dress down and bring in a small treat to share with their class on Monday.

Tuesday, September 29th, is our Feast Day Mass, celebrating the feast of the archangels. Each year, this is a parent-led Mass. If you are willing to read and able to join us that morning, please sign up using the link below.

Lastly, as we begin the month of October, our focus will be on our Blessed Mother and the praying of the rosary. Our entire school will participate in the Living Rosary next Friday, October 2nd, at 8:15 a.m. in St. Michael Church. This is such a beautiful experience for our community. All are welcome to join us.

God Bless,

Mrs. Ramos

Ramos

Safety On Campus

As I stated last month, one of the priorities we have at this school is the safety of all. This includes our students, staff, and families, and in order to maintain that safety, we are required to establish rules and guidelines for all. Since the school year started, we have had a number of families challenge those guidelines we have in place because of convenience. My greatest fear is that something will happen to a student or adult on campus because we have some choosing not to abide by the guidelines we have established. Once again, here are some rules we ask you to abide by while on campus:

1. At no time should a door be opened at the breezeway, 30th Street, or the ramp because one cannot be bothered to walk to the main entrance of the school. Not doing so poses a safety risk for all.

2. All car riders must be picked up within the gates of the parking lot. Students are asked not to walk past these gates to go to their rides.

3. All students must be picked up by someone who is 18 or older.

4. Parents cannot volunteer or be around other students unless they have completed the Safe Parish training. This includes being at the tables during morning care.

Time and time again, we have had our staff members cursed at and ignored because some choose not to follow these established guidelines, which is a terrible example to set for our children. If you wish to speak to me further about these, please contact me.

Volunteers Wanted - Seamstresses Needed

Para For the Christmas program, the 5th grade will be performing an arrangement of “The Night Before Christmas.” I would like the boys to wear night caps and the girls to wear what are called “mop caps.” I have purchased old white sheets and washed them. I will cut the material and provide all the thread and elastic needed. I just need help sewing them up. If you have a sewing machine and the time to sew a few, that would be a blessing because that’s a lot of hats to make. Please send me a note or an email, if you are available to help.

Thank You,

Mrs. Witte

Gracias,

Sra. Witte

8th Grade Trash Bag Sales

It’s that time of year when we know many of you are beginning to bag up your leaves and clean out your gardens. If you are interested in purchasing trash bags from the school office, we are selling rolls for $11 a piece. All proceeds go to fund the eighth grade class trip. An initial order form was sent home with all students this week, if you are interested in purchasing any.  We do sell these bags throughout the year as well, so you may consider purchasing some in the spring as well.
