VBS

June 12th-16th from 9 am-12 pm

We need your help to provide a safe, fun, and loving environment for the 100 kids we will host here at St. Michael's VBS.

Pre-VBS help needed

Here are a few volunteer positions we need filled!

Design Team - Be part of a team that will transform St. Michael's into a Stellar adventure! You will help create our mainstage in Quigley Hall, our two main hallways, and our classrooms.

Materials Team - With 10 different stations we need a lot of supplies! This team will take inventory of what we have and create a list of what we need.

Set up Team - This team will execute the vision of our design team and put up all of the decorations the week before VBS.

Week of VBS help needed

Crew Leader - Lead a group of 5 elementary-aged children to four different stations. There’s no preparation required. You would be a friend and helper for the kids and station leaders and encourage them throughout VBS. We need four adults and 8 High School age volunteers.

Station Leaders - We have four different stations the kids rotate to throughout the day. You would lead and teach the same class 4 times throughout the day. There is some preparation but very minimal. We need adults to take on this role.

Kitchen Crew - In between the four stations the kids will come back to Quigley Hall for a snack. Our crew will prepare the snacks for the kids.

Assistants - We need Preschool crew leader assistants as well as station leader assistants. These positions are great for our youth.

In 2012, Harbor House opened its on-site Paws for Peace Kennel after a nation-wide survey revealed that 65% of domestic violence survivors delay leaving an abusive home for fear their pets would be maimed or killed. Internal data indicates this is true for over 80% of local survivors entering the Harbor House emergency shelter. Can you imagine leaving your beloved pet behind with someone who might hurt or even kill them? Neither can we.

The Paws for Peace Walk ensures that domestic violence survivors in Orange County don’t have to choose between their own lives or the lives of their beloved pets. All funds raised from your in-kind donation at the event will go toward supporting survivors of domestic violence and providing the complete and loving care of pets in sanctuary at Harbor House.

Ukraine Update

The pictures were delivered to Mark and Margo!

It is hard to believe that it has been almost a year since Mark and Margo celebrated their fourth birthdays in a car at the boarder between Poland and Ukraine waiting to see if they would be allowed to cross into safety.

They celebrated their birthdays this past week with some other families from the Ukraine at their temporary home in Poland.

Basia reports that they certainly felt the love from St. Michael's across the miles!

An Update from Poland

Thank you, St. Michael’s, for continuing to support the work of parishioner Basia Andraka-Christou and her family, who are hosting a Ukrainian refugee family in Basia’s family’s house in Poland. Basia’s father, Bohdan Andraka, who usually lives in Gainesville, will be flying to Poland in a few days, where he will stay for two months. During that time, he will continue to help the Ukrainian family and make further repairs to the house.

In just a few weeks, Mark and Margo will turn five years old! They have been in Poland now for almost a year since the war began and love their preschool (right across the street from the Andraka home.)

Their mother, Oksana, has found a part-time job cleaning houses. She finished a Polish language course and has sent Basia several messages recently in Polish. Polish is a difficult language and Oksana is speaking it quite well. Given how young the children are and the fact that, like many preschoolers, Mark and Margo often get colds, Oksana appreciates that her job is very flexible.

Mark and Margo are also speaking Polish well now, and they practice Ukrainian with other children via Zoom.

If you would like to contribute to costs of housing Mark, Margo, and Oksana, please write a check to St. Michael’s with “Ukraine” in the memo line, or donate at Online Giving (accessacs.com), selecting the Outreach-Ukraine option.

Thank you again supporting this young family that is thriving (as much as possible) during a very difficult time.

"Jeans for Jesus" wraps up with 191 pairs!

We fell a little short of our goal, but thanks to our St. Michael's family we will be donating 191 pairs of jeans to the Christian Service Center to help folks re-entering the work force.

Please continue to pray for all that receive these gifts, that they may feel encouraged and blessed as they begin a new chapter.

Thank you for all you do! - Mike Robertson

Matthew 25:36-40

“Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Enter, you who are blessed by my Father! Take what’s coming to you in this kingdom. It’s been ready for you since the world’s foundation. And here’s why:

I was hungry and you fed me,

I was thirsty and you gave me a drink,

I was homeless and you gave me a room,

I was shivering and you gave me clothes,

I was sick and you stopped to visit,

I was in prison and you came to me.’

“Then those ‘sheep’ are going to say, ‘Master, what are you talking about? When did we ever see you hungry and feed you, thirsty and give you a drink? And when did we ever see you sick or in prison and come to you?’ Then the King will say, ‘I’m telling the solemn truth: Whenever you did one of these things to someone overlooked or ignored, that was me—you did it to me.’
