Dear St. Michael’s Family,

This past week, we paused to consider the many voices that vie for our attention. We talked about how easily the Shepherd’s voice can be muffled by the "inner critic," the frantic pace of our culture, or even the well-meaning ideals and desires of those we love that don’t quite ring true to the Gospel.

As we move through the middle of the week, I’ve been wondering: How’s that going for you? Are you noticing the moments where the voice of love in Christ is being crowded out? I invite you to continue practicing holy discernment, gently setting aside the noise to make room for the One who calls you by name.

Honoring a Legacy of Faith

We are entering a season of profound celebration at SMC. This Friday, May 1st, marks our first opportunity to honor Andrew Walker and his extraordinary 45 years of ministry within our parish family. Andrew’s devotion has been a cornerstone of our community, and I invite you to join us as we begin saying "thank you."

  • This Friday, May 1st: We will gather at 5:30 PM for an Evensong in the Church, followed by a festive celebration in Quigley Hall.

  • Sunday, May 31st: This will be Andrew’s last official Sunday with us. During our 10:15 AM service, we will pray with him and commission him for the new season of ministry the Holy Spirit is unfolding. A reception will follow in Quigley Hall.

Youth Sunday: The Fifth Sunday of Easter

This coming Sunday, May 3rd, is a highlight in our liturgical year: Youth Sunday. Our worship will be led by the amazing young people of this parish.

I want to personally invite you to "come and see" as our youth lead, teach, and encourage us. In our tradition, we believe that the Holy Spirit speaks through every generation, and there is a particular grace in hearing the Gospel proclaimed through the voices of those who represent the future of the Church. They are not just the "church of tomorrow"—they are the church of today, and they have much to teach us about what it means to live in the light of the Resurrected Christ.

To Guide Our Prayer This Week

I encourage you to sit with our lectionary texts this week. They speak so clearly to our identity as a community built on the "Living Stone" of Christ:

  • Acts 7:55-60
  • Psalm 31:1-5, 15-16
  • 1 Peter 2:2-10
  • John 14:1-14

We look forward to seeing your faces this Friday and Sunday as we celebrate the past, present, and future of our lives together.

In Christ’s Love,
