Operation Christmas Child: Global Outreach

Thank you, thank you - we only have a few shoeboxes left to be claimed and filled! Let's have 100% filled and returned this year. We hope your family will enjoy picking out fun items to fill your shoebox. This year's shoeboxes were purchased with a gift from an anonymous donor - yes, we have to purchase the shoeboxes so it's important to honor that gift and return all shoeboxes covered with prayer and packed with love for God's children everywhere. Gift ideas by age/gender are available at www.samaritanspurse.org . Shoebox blessing Sunday will be Nov. 17.
Why the $9 donation? The shoeboxes are trucked from the 5,000 drop off locations to the 8 different USA processing centers which must be secured for the inspection, processing and preparation for international shipping. Then ships, trucks, and airplanes transport millions of these shoeboxes to the countries where they will be distributed. The money also provides the Greatest Gift Gospel Booklets written in native languages and distributed with the shoeboxes and helps to train and equip the local churches to share the Good News with children after they have received their shoeboxes. If you are able, please include the $9 donation in each shoebox.  For questions call Peggy and Roger Trubey, Project Leaders (407)702-9378  or peggyroger@cfl.rr.com

Teach -In at Lake Silver Elementary: November 20

Do you have an interesting career or fascinating hobby? Do you like to read to children? Would you like to talk about your vacation in France?

We are seeding volunteers to participate in Teach-In 2019 at Lake Silver Elementary on November 20.
What would I do?
Some volunteer read books to pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten students.
Some teach practical, personal skills to high school students such as managing a checking account and using credit cards wisely. Others involve entire middle school classes in projects like a mock election. Some give demonstrations using musical instruments or scientific equipment to 5th graders.
You can read a book; share an educational experience or your career; talk about a favorite vacation, hobby, or how a special teacher touched your life. Whatever your skills, no matter your topic, there is a classroom of students waiting to hear from you! To get matched with the appropriate grade and classroom(s), please register to serve as a speaker and someone from the Foundation will contact you soon.
It takes as little as an hour of your time. To participate,  please contact Laura Holihan at Lake Silver and mention you are from St. Michael's. She will help you with everything!  Her number is 407-245-1850 ext. 3502224 or email her at  laura.holihan@ocps.net  Please also contact Mike in the church office to let us know you signed up.

One of the important and rewarding areas of lay service in the Body of Christ at
St. Michael's is the administration and spiritual oversight of the church, it's called vestry.
The dedicated servant leaders of the vestry partner with the rector to guide St. Michael's to God's vision and purpose. While the vestry is often seen simply as the "governing board" of the parish, its decisions go beyond mere policy, affecting not just the structure and finances of the church, but also the spiritual lives of its people. As such, members of the vestry take on a sacred duty to pray, listen to God, one another, the members of the parish, and the deep hunger of the world, and then discern how God is calling St. Michael's to use our giftedness to bring God's kingdom closer to earth.
Based on our Baptismal Covenant and Catechism below are some basic guidelines to consider that will help with discernment.
WHO IS JESUS CHRIST?    Have you accepted Jesus Christ as the Son of God, acknowledged his as your Savior, surrendered to him as Lord of your life, and put your whole trust in his grace and love? (See BCP Page 302-303)
WORSHIP: Are you committed, as God enables you to worship with your parish family in church as often as possible? (See BCP Page 304, 856)
DEVOTIONAL LIFE: Are you developing your relationship with God through prayer, study, fellowship and worship? (BCP Page 304, 856)
TREASURES: Are you and your family committed to trusting God with your financial resources and supporting the mission and ministry of the church?
GOD'S WILL: Are you willing to serve by seeking Christ's will for his church and giving as much attention to the spiritual life of the congregation as to the financial and administrative decisions? (Acts 1:21, 1 Corinthians 1:26-31)
SUPPORT: Are you willing to support parish functions-social and spiritual-with your work and attendance?
MEETINGS: Are you committed to attend vestry meetings; to participate in the vestry retreat; and to pray daily for your parish? (John 20:24-29)
If you think God is calling you or someone else at St. Michael's to serve in this ministry, please contact the person and ask their permission and then you may submit his/her name to Edye Mcnickle at edythe.mcnickle@yahoo.com
or Fr. Rick in the office or at rluoni@stmichaelschurch.com. Vestry will serve a three-year term and be announced in January 26th at our Annual Meeting.
