Reflections from Fr. Rick

"Yet even now, says the Lord,
return to me with all your heart..." Joel 2
On Ash Wednesday we were invited to "return to God with all our heart." One of the ways that I "return to God with all my heart" is through silent prayer. It is an intentional time when I sit in solitude and silence and simply be present to God's presence.
I invite you to join me in the CHAPEL ON THURSDAYS AT 12PM DURING LENT FOR "SILENT PRAYER." I'll offer some suggestions for getting the most from your time, read a brief word for the day, and then we'll simply remain in silent prayer for several minutes.
Many folks never practice silent prayer because they fear that if they are not using a wordy stream of talking to God and asking God for this and that, they feel they are not praying. This characterizes any relationship to a certain extent. When we are first getting to know someone, the relationship is nurtured by talking. Only with time does the relationship mature in such a way that we can be silent with someone, that silence comes to be seen to be the deeper mode of communion. And so, it is with God; our words give way to silence.
If you are unable to join me on Thursdays, consider sitting aside a few minutes each day for silence and simply be present to God who is present with you, or as Augustine said, "God is more near to you than you are to yourself."Let that sink in. God is home. But we are away. God abides. But we wander. God pursues, but we drift.  God has made his home in me, and in you. Lent invites us return home to God.

Lenten Bible Challenge: A 40 Day Journey Through Luke

Lent is an invitation to spend 40 days walking alongside Jesus, listening to His life-changing teachings, and falling more in love with God through self-examination and repentance; prayer, fasting, and self-denial; and by reading and meditating on God's holy Word.
You're invited to rediscover Christ anew by reading through the Gospel of Luke in 40 days. You'll cover approximately 30 verses each day for six days a week and then take Sunday as a day of rest. This requires intentionality and may require fasting 10 minutes a day from Facebook, Twitter, cable news, or ESPN to reflect on God's "love letter" to you.

Lenten Morning Prayer

Monday - Thursday
during Lent
7 am in the Chapel
Morning Prayer will be led by members of St. Michael's, Monday through Thursday in the Chapel at 7 am. The Eucharist will continue to be celebrated each week on Friday at 7 am. If you would like to participate in leading Lenten Morning Prayer, sign-up sheets are available in the Chapel.
The Rock, the Road and the Rabbi (Monday's during Lent)

9:30 am in the Conference Room
"From His birth, Jesus was destined to be our Passover lamb without blemish, born to die to free us from sin and death."

Please join us in the conference room on Monday mornings during lent at 9:30 AM as we travel the roads Jesus walked from Bethlehem to Calvary.

We will be using the study guide,
The Rock, the Road and the Rabbi by Kathy Lee Gifford and Rabbi Jason Sobel
, a messianic Jew. We will have short videos each week filmed in Israel. To purchase the study guide, click here.

ALL are welcome!

Note: The Hardcover, 224 page book, The Rock the Road, and the Rabbi is not required for this study but is a wonderful resource full of wisdom from Rabbi Jason Sobel, and can also be purchased on Amazon.
An easy to read audio version is also available.

INTO THE SILENT LAND:  Practicing the Presence of God Together through Silent Prayer

Thursdays 12PM-12:30PM
in the Chapel during Lent
Wednesday Night Lenten Programs

WEDNESDAY EVENING LENTEN PROGRAM: "Your Image of God Shapes You"   continues each Wednesday through April 10th.   We'll begin at 6:30 PM in the church for a reflection, silence,  contemplation and communion.

We'll conclude the evening at 7:15-7:30.

Stations of the Cross March 22 & April 12 at 6:15 pm

During Lent, St. Michael's will be offering the simple service called Stations of the Cross which is sometimes called the Way of the Cross.

Have you ever noticed the fourteen wooden plaques that line both sides of our church?

They depict the events on the day of Jesus' crucifixion. During the service, one person carries the wooden cross as we stop at each plaque, read a scripture lesson and say a prayer. It is a very meaningful service and a fitting Lenten activity for the whole family. There's lots of congregation participation in the twenty minute service. So why not make it a point to come out and join us? ALL are welcome!

Take Them A Meal
John and Millie Nowell

Our sweet John Nowell has recently been diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer, so he and Millie could use some love, our prayers, as well as some food from us.  While they have no restrictions, John doesn't like curry.  What they both love is good old fashioned comfort food, and they love soup.  If preparing food, it would be helpful to make for 4 so they can have leftovers.
To sign up , please go to takethemameal.com, enter Nowell under Last Name and Nowell under the Password.  There you can find a day that is convenient for you.  And if you'd like to provide a meal but find your time limited, you can pick up from any nearby restaurant and deliver, or use UberEats to order and they pick up and deliver.  In any case, please go to the link and note that you are providing a meal.  The Nowell's address is 1406 Magna Court, Orlando 32804.  The best time to deliver food is between 4pm-5:30pm.

The Niemas Family

This sweet St Michael's family is walking a journey, and would so appreciate help with 1 or 2 meals per week for the next month. We are feeding 4 people, 2 adults and 2 young children. One of the children does have a serious nut and shellfish allergy; and one of the adults does have an allergy to dairy (milk, cheese, cream, butter & yogurt). Generous portions would allow them leftovers. If you'd like to provide a meal and find your time limited, you can use UberEats to order and they pick up and deliver; or you can order from restaurants in the MetroWest area that delivers. Please call Arline at 321-246-3902 to schedule delivery of food. Arline also understands that her area is some distance from the church and she is willing to meet someone, or pick up the meal from the church herself, if necessary.

To sign up , please go to takethemameal.com, enter Niemas under Last Name and Niemas under the Password.  There you can find a day that is convenient for you.

Thank you so much for serving the Nowell, Nelson & Niemas families during this time.
