Letter from Fr. Haren
The Feast of St. Monica
The Feast of St. Monica will be here before you know it. In the past couple of years we have been celebrating this day with a Parish Homecoming Picnic and Raffle at the Pavilion. Last year we were unable to do so because of the pandemic. Finally, after sixteen months of isolation, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. It seems that the disastrous effects of the pandemic are on the wain. So once again we would like to celebrate this important event in our Parish.
On Sunday, August 29th, we will once again celebrate this special day with our annual Homecoming Picnic. It will begin with an outdoor Mass at the Pavilion. This will be followed by an afternoon of camaraderie with good food, with entertainment provided by Alex Bevan, and with drawing the winners of our Annual Summer Raffle. A Chinese Basket Raffle and a few other surprises will be taking place. We all need to get out from the doldrums of the pandemic, and begin to live our lives again as we have done in the past.
This year we are asking for your support of the Homecoming Picnic and Raffle through our annual Summer Fundraiser. As was done last year, we will offer prizes for your participation. Most of the funds collected, through your generosity, will go to the support of our parish. As an incentive for your participation, we will be offering ten baskets with each of them containing a $100.00 Visa Bank card, a $100.00 Giant Eagle Card, along with some very nice additional items anyone can enjoy.
In the past years we have asked that each family buy or sell $50.00 of Raffle Tickets. This year we are again asking each family to donate $50.00, or what you would usually buy in raffle tickets for this year’s fundraiser. For every $10.00 donation you send in, you will receive 1 chance on one of those ten baskets. We realize that the baskets are just a token of the prizes offered in the past, but in this way the funds collected will help deliver the monies needed for our parish budget. I thank you in advance for doing the best that you can in making this fundraiser a success for all of the activities which go on in St. Monica Church.
God bless you,
Fr. Thomas Haren
