Due to Covid restrictions put forth from the Archdiocese of Boston the imposition of Ashes will not be permitted this year. However, as Ash Wednesday marks the first day of Lent, and as ashes can be an outward sign of our desire to effect an interior disposition, we will have ashes available for you to impose with family and friends.
At the conclusion of the 9:00 am Ash Wednesday Mass (St. John’s) and at Liturgy of the Word Services (St. Gerard: noon and 7:00 pm; St. John: 3:00 pm) we will distribute small envelopes containing ashes.
Please note that each envelope contains enough for several persons. One is sufficient for a family as we wish to ensure a sufficient supply for all.
The Church has long preferred and promoted the distribution of Ashes at Mass instead of simpler services. This is obviously an exceptional year due to the threat of coronavirus. Thank you for your understanding.
