A Note from Father McKee
"We search for a good self to be and for good work to do. We search to become human in a world that tempts us always to be less than human or looks to us to be more. We search to love and be loved. And in a world where it is often hard to believe in much of anything, we search to believe in something holy and beautify and life-transcending that will give meaning and purpose to the lives we live."

Fred Buechner , The Longing for Home

Our discussion on gun violence will resume Sunday, November 10th at 9:00 a.m. in the Garden Room.

An Invitation to Faithful Stewardship of God's Gifts to Us
"All things come of you, O Lord, and of your own have we given you."-- Book of Common Prayer

This Sunday is Pledge In-Gathering Sunday. If you have not already mailed/turned-in your pledge, or pledged online, please bring your pledge to church with you Sunday, where we will put them all together and give great and hearty thanks for our life together. By the end of last year’s drive, we received 98 pledges totaling $369,280. As of Thursday of this week we’ve received 64 pledges totaling $ 248,210. We continue to move joyfully towards exceeding our goal of 100 households making a pledges. Pledge packets are available on our website, on the Usher’s desk at the church entrance, or you may use the link below. Pledges of prayers not only count, but are essential, so fill out those forms and get them in. Faithfully, Paul Herbers & Richard Martin, St. Paul’s Stewardship Chairs.

You may use the link below to make your 2020 pledge, or contact the  Church Office  for a paper pledge form. Thank you for your support financially, for your participation, and by remembering the worship, outreach, and people of St. Paul's in your prayers.

Wednesday Evening Holy Eucharist at St. Paul's
All are welcome to attend our weekday Holy Eucharist at 6 p.m. on Wednesdays. It is a small contemplative service, with no music. Whether you are looking for a midweek break in our busy lives to 'reset' your sense of discipleship or a way to deepen your spiritual life, come join other fellow travelers to reflect on scripture, give thanks and be fed from the Holy Table. If you are able, stay for another thirty minutes and enjoy fellowship with us.
Profile Committee Update -
Survey Started Sunday, November 3
On Sunday, November 3rd the Parish Profile Survey was electronically launched and sent to all who have an email registered with the church office. The survey will stay “live” until Sunday, November 24th so we ask that everyone please take time from your busy schedule to answer the survey. The information gained from the survey is critical in shaping the information about our congregation that will be used in the search for the next St. Paul’s rector.  If you have not received the survey via email, please email Nancy Franklin , Parish Profile Committee Chair, and she will forward it to you. If you would be more comfortable completing a paper copy of the survey, they are available in a box outside the church office. It is estimated that the survey will take 20-25 minutes to complete. Paper surveys will also be available in the Undercroft after church on Sunday.

Once the survey data has been collected, focus group meetings will be held to gather more information from parish members regarding various aspects of our church life together at St. Paul’s. These groups will  meet in early December. Please watch for more information about the time and location of these meetings.
A Prayer for St. Paul's in-transition
Almighty God, giver of every good gift: Look graciously on your Church, and so guide the minds of those who shall choose a rector for this parish, that we may receive a faithful pastor, who will care for your people and equip us for our ministries; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen .
Reminder
Those who wish to collect photos and other items left on the Altar of Remembrance will find them in a basket on the 2 nd floor outside of the church offices. Thank you.
Prayer Request Forms are for requesting prayers for yourself, and for others. They are available from the box on the wall in the tower room near the pulpit, on the Usher's Desk at the 40th street door, and the Receptionist Desk at the South/School side door. They are also on our  website . If you are interested in becoming a part of the Pastoral Care Ministry Team, please contact Heidi Carter,  Associate for Ministry.

Please come and let yours be heard.

How to start taking steps now to make room for the gentle glow of Advent and the peace of Christmas at a reasonable, faithful pace. Join Father McKee for this important conversation.

Thanksgiving & Christmas
Pantry "Holiday Bird" Project

Adopt a Holiday Bird for the Pantry
Every year the Pantry gives away as many turkeys and whole chickens as we can during the Thanksgiving and Christmas season. This year, we will receive 132 turkeys and 72 chickens for this project. We will pay about $2 per bird. Would you like to help us? Make a $2 special donation to the church marked “Holiday Bird.” Adopt one or a dozen!

Update: 50 birds have been sponsored so far!
St. Paul's Nursery Helpers
Each Sunday we have two paid staff persons caring for our youngest (and cutest!) members. All are required to take the "Safeguarding God's Children" training, pass a background check, and love our kids and their families. We also occasionally need nursery caregivers during the week for special meetings, worship services, or events. Please speak with  Catie Brouse  if you are ready to join the team. Service hours for high school students are available, but the training requirements remain. Thank you!
Coffee Hour Host
Nov 10 - Mitzi Foster
Nov 17 - St. Margaret's Day Celebration
Nov 24 - Ellen Haden & Beth Herbers

Hosting Coffee Hour is a fun and easy way to get to know other St. Paul's members! The host brings the food and the church provides the drinks. An example of what a host might bring would be: two large pans of brownies (cut very small), maybe a bowl of fruit (oftentimes grapes cut into small clusters), and a bowl or two of pretzels or popcorn. If you have questions or wish to co-host with another member, please contact  Alison . Dates are available.

Going Deeper
Verse for the week
But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.
2 Corinthians 12:9 (NIV)
Voice for the week
History is not the past. It is the stories we tell about the past. How we tell these stories - triumphantly or self-critically, metaphysically or dialectally - has a lot to do with whether we cut short or advance our evolution as human beings.
Grace Lee-Boggs
Prayer for the week
Let us not be put off by struggle, God, but instead lean into it to see your power reflected in what we cannot achieve alone. Amen .
Thought for the week
Christ’s will was, and is, to unite. Think how he wept over Jerusalem! Or think of his prayer, “That they all might be one” – so much so that they are one living organism – his body, animated by his spirit. Christ said, “I am the Way”…Modern life is so complicated and torn, so distracting and disintegrating, whereas the Way is simple, light, and straight. It unifies the whole of life.
