This Week's News Highlights

Our Service This Week

Holy Eucharist on Facebook and for those in person will be at 8:30AM on Sunday. See below for how to attend by either mode of participation. Please consider the current state of the pandemic in making your decision about attending this service, or any other, in person. Facebook Live continues to be a safe and meaningful way to join in worship each Sunday.

Search Committee Update

Thus far the diocese has received nine (9) resumes and applications for the Rector position. These are being vetted by the bishop, who we hope will forward appropriate ones to the Search Committee soon. The Committee, for it's part, has extended advertising in order to solicit further applications in the next month or two.
Annual Meeting Set for January 31

The Vestry has designated Sunday, January 31, as the date for the annual meeting. It will be held at both the church sanctuary and via Zoom for qualified electors.

If you are considering attending in person, please know we will go out of the way to ensure safety. Many of the reports that are usually read will be recorded and available in advance. (We probably won’t read them or play them during the meeting itself to reduce the time together.)

We’ll swing the windows of the church wide open. Though that will increase the noise from the street, it will make the interior space essentially an exterior space. We’ll also have socially distanced seating available on the side porch for those who prefer to listen from outside the structure. Please dress appropriately as the HVAC won't be on and Key West can be either hot or cold this time of year.

Every annual meeting involves electing three Vestry members, electing Dioecian Convention delegates (if appropriate) and approval of the budget. This year there will also be an agenda item to amend the by-laws to specifically provide for electronic meetings in times of emergency. Please mark your calendars for Sunday, January 31 after the 8:30AM service (approximately 9:50AM) for the annual meeting.

Please Buy A Brick and Build a Legacy

Brick sales are going well and we'll soon place the first new grouping. Please consider joining in this project.
The cost of a 4 x 8 brick is $100. Each brick will accommodate up to 3 lines and up to 18 characters per line, including spaces. You may order a Donor Brick with an additional donation of $35; this is a duplicate of the brick being placed in the garden. A certificate can also be ordered to send to an honoree describing the brick to be installed.

(Please note that bricks will be installed over time as orders accumulate to reduce shipping costs. Please order now, but allow some time for the actual installation of the brick.)

You can order your brick(s) here.

Did you know you DO NOT need to have a Facebook account to view the service or visit our Facebook page? Simply use the Facebook page link to go directly to our Facebook page (even if you don't have your own Facebook account). Follow the directions above.

You can open or download the bulletin for the Sunday service here.

Junior Warden's Report
By Greta Philips-Ford
Thank you to ALL of the volunteers on Saturday that helped to clean-up/organize the attic and flower room! This was a great help and a fun to see the many items/treasures we have!

The Christmas silk flowers/garland is being temporarily stored in Holy Innocents Hall so it won’t get damaged during the construction project.
Speaking of construction, thanks to the generosity of many, work will soon begin on roof and other repairs to fix damaging leaks and make other improvements to roof and walls in that quadrant of the church (above the sacristy - or the left side, if you are seated in church facing the altar.)
As an example of the kind of work that is needed (in addition to roof work itself), the "window" pictured isn't a window at all. It is simply an opening with wooden shutters (very medieval) facing Eaton Street. Any driving rainstorm (whether by thunderstorm or hurricane) drives rain straight into the church. This will be replaced.

This week attention turns to outside work. We will meet again this Saturday at 9:00AM to work on the flower beds/pruning.

I look forward to seeing you then!
Senior Warden's Report
By Ray Warren

For the first time last week, I was able to join Junior Warden Greta Philips-Ford and others for the weekly Saturday morning project. And I have to say, I REALLY ENOYED IT.
Two hours of work went by in no time and I felt more connected with the building, my fellow members, and the history of the sacred space. If you want to get out and do a good deed that will also refresh the soul, please consider joining the volunteers one Saturday morning between 9AM and noon. You will not regret it.
One of the most popular publications for members is the monthly “Forward Day By Day” devotional book. These have always been available in the back of the church and in the church office. When the pandemic hit (and the church was closed) we had no way to get them to people.

Now the booklets are available again in the back of the church for those who attend in person services. Please take one.

If you worship with us online or are out of town and would like a booklet, let the office know. A time can be arranged for you to pick one up from the office (preferred) or we can mail you one. Please be aware, however, that mailing will be a bit of a burden in terms of staff time and cost. So, to the extent you can pick yours up, so much the better.

Forward Day By Day is a wonderful resource and a good way to exercise spiritually while our activities together are limited.
Our wonderful volunteer sexton/property manager Ken Bagge was spotted last week finishing a long standing project to rehabilitate the handicap walkway. Over the summer he replaced boards and sanded. Here is painting the finished project. “Soli Deo Gloria” (“To God Alone, Glory), but God works through human hands.

Since last summer Fr. Lenworth Haughton has faithfully driven down from Broward County every weekend to celebrate our Eucharist. Fr. Haughton delivers timely homilies and keeps us grounded. If you would like to thank him, please feel free to send a note, addressed to him, to the church office:

I’d love to see a lot of cards in the next two weeks. He is not our rector, but for the moment he is our priest, and he has given us needed stability as we move forward.

Pray for peace and healing in our nation and, please, stay safe. Several members have already received the vaccination. Help is on the way. Let us not let our guard won now.
