Image : Elijah , John August Swanson, Giclee print, 2008. Born in 1938, Swanson makes his home in Los Angeles. He paints in oil, watercolor, acrylic and mixed media, and works in a variety of print media. His art reflects the strong heritage of storytelling he inherited from his Mexican mother and Swedish father. He addresses himself to human values, cultural roots, and his quest for self-discovery. Swanson studied art with Corita Kent at Immaculate Heart College. His unique style is influenced by the imagery of Islamic and medieval miniatures, Russian iconography, the color of Latin American folk art, and the tradition of Mexican muralists.
Upcoming St. Paul's Events
July 7-9, Grades 6-9
This summer, St. Paul’s middle school group is heading back down to Eugene for the 5th Annual M&M (Middles&Mission) Camp! This trip is a wonderful time of community building while we explore together how our faith might inform the ways we seek to fulfill our baptismal covenant and “respect the dignity of all human beings.” We’ll team up with the Burrito Brigade and join other groups in Eugene that are working to meet the needs of those facing housing and food insecurity in the community. All incoming 6-9th graders may participate in this camp. Contact Amy Goerger ( amygoerger@stpaulsoregon.org) for more information. Click here to register.
Ignite your child’s love of art and joy of adventure with fine art studios featuring Egyptian story, music, art, drama and games. Take a journey through Egypt right here in Oregon! Local artists and educators will guide us in exploring Egyptian life, music, art, history, architecture and food. Participants will march in the 70th Annual Salem Art Fair and Festival Children’s Parade and be delightfully entertained by a performance of the Children’s Educational Theatre. Camp will conclude with an exciting Friends and Family Day presentation. Register now! Contact Amy Goerger ( amygoerger@stpaulsoregon.org ) with questions.

If you would like to sponsor a child so that they may be a part of SPARK this year, scholarship donations are gratefully accepted!
July 17, 2:00 pm – 7:00 pm
On Wednesday, July 17, St. Paul’s will host a blood drive in honor of Haley Pollman, who is fighting Batten Disease ( haleysheroesfoundation.org ). Click here to see a flyer with more info . You may sign up by contacting Melissa Pollman at conkraft@gmail.com or 503-580-1736.
July 19-21
We are calling on everyone in the parish to help with this all-church project. Volunteers are needed for morning, afternoon and evening shifts to prepare, fry, transport, and sell delicious Vietnamese spring rolls called “Chi Yo.” We will sell them at a booth at the Salem Art Fair. Proceeds go to Helping Hands in Salem and music scholarships for youth. This year, our booth will be in the north food court for the first time. Please come visit and/or volunteer.

Members and friends of the parish can purchase chi yo by the dozen!  Orders can be placed with volunteers in the narthex after church on June 23, 30, July 7 and 14. Or you can call Pat Moss at 503-508-0349. Let Paul Klemme know how you might want to be involved: paulklemme@stpaulsoregon.org or 503-362-3661 ext.310.
