Rector's Notes:
Annual Parish Meeting in the Parish Hall, Sunday, January 27 at 9:00 a.m.
Mary Dobbins,
former Director of Admissions
,
passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Saturday, December 30th. A Memorial Celebration will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, January 18, at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 6400 Wornall Road, Kansas City, MO. A reception will follow in the Jewell Room at the church.
During a three-decade+ career at St. Paul's Episcopal Day School, Mary taught our toddlers and kindergarteners, directed the summer program, and retired as Director of Admissions. Mary was a welcoming presence and a true ambassador for the whole St. Paul's community.
In honor of her impact on our community and her many years as Director of Admissions, we will be placing a memorial plaque outside of the Admissions office at the Day School. In addition, Mary's family has graciously requested donations to St. Paul's Day School to honor her memory.
We invite the St. Paul's community to attend the memorial service and share their memories of Mary at the following reception.
We're thankful for the many ways Mary touched our community over her years at St. Paul's, and we'll always remember the joyful spirit she brought to her work.
If you are interested in attending the world famous Oberammergau Passion Play in Bavaria, Germany in 2020, contact Laura Long (816.674.9004) by January 20.

Information about your 2019
Mission and Ministry Pledge:
Every year, in response to the many and great gifts God freely bestows upon us, we are all invited to make a pledge to the financial support of St. Paul's Parish.
Our gifts become a witness in the world of this parish's response to God's call to us to be a faithful community serving all God's creation.
The ministries of St. Paul's depend upon the financial support of its members and other interested persons. In order for the Vestry to make good decisions on how to manage our resources, we invite you to make a financial commitment to our parish for 2019. You can use the link below to make your pledge or contact the
Church Office for a paper pledge form.
Thank you for your support financially, for your participation, and by remembering our efforts in your prayers.

Request from The Pantry
Have you ever wondered about our Food Ministry* impact on Midtown?
1) In 2017 your food ministries distributed about 450,000 pounds of food from various food resources.
2) Using standard formulas used to calculate these things, we provided about 375,000 meals to our client community.
3) With a total food ministry budget of about $45,000 we leveraged almost $800,000 dollars worth of food to our Midtown client community.
This is what you make possible when you
financially support St. Paul's Parish!

Hosting Coffee Hour is a fun and easy way to get to know other St. Paul's members! The host brings the food and the church provides the drinks. An example of what a host might bring would be: two large pans of brownies (cut very small), maybe a bowl of fruit (oftentimes grapes cut into small clusters), and a bowl or two of pretzels or popcorn. If you have questions or wish to co-host with another member, please contact
Alison. Dates are available.

Put away from you all bitterness and wrath and anger and wrangling and slander, together with all malice, and be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ has forgiven you.

I imagine one of the reasons people cling to their hates so stubbornly is because they sense, once hate is gone, they will be forced to deal with pain.

prayer
of the week
Oh God, in the midst of uncertainty, we pray that you would grant us peace. While frustration and anger come in waves, we ask that you would instill in us a spirit of gentleness. Empower us to reach out to those who are suffering and tend to your community here on earth. Amen.

thought of the week
Martin Luther King Jr.
I believe that standing up for the truth of God is the greatest thing in the world. This is the end of life. The end of life is not to be happy. The end of life is not to achieve pleasure and avoid pain. The end of life is to do the will of God, come what may.
