After a month in our worship space, the Souls Shot portraits will be taken down tomorrow and will head to another exhibition site. These powerful works of art entered our life of prayer, and their stories became part of our community. The organization invests about $1500 to install and create materials for each exhibition. Please use the button below to make a donation directly to Souls Shot to support this powerful work and help offset the costs of the exhibition's visit to our church.
Gallery catalogs are still available for purchase from the church office for $30. Or they can be ordered through the Souls Shot website using the button below.

Dr. Joel Schwartz will lead a discussion during adult forum to help us learn about the physical and emotional benefits of humor and how to apply it to your life, your education, your work and your relationships.

Anthem Spotlight
View Me, Lord
|
Charles Wood was an Irish composer and teacher. Some of his well-known pupils included Ralph Vaughan Williams at Cambridge and Herbert Howells at the Royal College of Music. He is best remembered as composer of Anglican songs and also chamber music for String Quartet. In his youth, he was educated at the Cathedral Choir School and also had studied with two organists at the Armagh Cathedral in Ireland where he was born.
View Me, Lord is one of his smaller and lesser known pieces. Nonetheless, it is a composition of simple beauty. It has an unusual voicing: Alto, Tenor and Bass. This has been interpreted by some to mean that he intended it for male voices only. We will have sopranos and altos together in the alto part, and joined by the tenors and basses. There is a lovely section leading to a variation in the second theme, which David Mosteller will ably sing as a baritone solo. That mid-section is actually a choral variation of the first part or A section. The final section is powerful, sung in unison and closing with an “AMEN”.
The text is a beautiful example of prayer set to music. ‘View me, Lord; cleanse me, Lord’; ‘in Thy word is my trust’. There is an acknowledgement of the covenants which are endless, ‘they know nor days nor years’. May this musical offering be an especially beautiful and inspirational prayer for all.
