Worship at St. Peter's

This Sunday, July 9, Pastor Steve will continue the sermon series Things that Need to Be Said, by bringing the message Justice Matters, from Isaiah 42: 1-4; Matthew 12:9-21. The service will begin at 9:00 AM in the Sanctuary.

St. Peter's wants to ensure you get the most out of in-house worship. If you are having difficulties hearing the message, sound-amplifying devices are available at the back of the Sanctuary. Ask an usher to assist you.

The FLOWERS this Sunday are given by Rheta Morse in elebration of her 47th wedding anniversary.

MUSIC NOTES

“Live Into Hope”

[An occasional commentary on music for the coming Sunday.]

Child of missionaries; wife of a Presbyterian pastor; influential member of Presbyterian Church (USA) committees and councils, United Presbyterian Women, and General Assembly Council…and hymn writer. Jane Parker Huber wrote her first hymn, “Live Into Hope,” for the United Presbyterian Women’s National Meeting. The team planning worship wanted a hymn that specifically addressed the prophecies of Isaiah and the ministry of Jesus to bring good news to the poor, release to the captives, and sight to the blind. The tune is familiar to us as “Lift Up Your Heads, Ye Mighty Gates.”

Wholehearted Worship

Wednesday Evening, July 12, at 6:30 PM

in the Sanctuary

Next Wednesday will be the final Wholehearted Worship. Over the past few weeks, we have gathered to learn some new music for wholehearted singing, praying, serving, and living. Stan DeWitt from Grace First Presbyterian Church has done a wonderful job in leading us in song.

On July 12, we will have special guests, husband and wife Alex Arkhypov and Katerina Arkhypova. He is a Ukrainian musician/bassist, and she is a singer/model recently resettled in Long Beach after fleeing their home in Kiev. Alex is a masterful bass player who has performed in the Eurovision competition, on X Factor Ukraine, and with musicians throughout Europe. Katerina's modeling work has put her on the covers of many magazines. After living for a period in Warsaw after the war began, they moved to Los Angeles to seek work before moving to Long Beach several months ago.

Come gather with us, and let’s do “wholehearted” together.

  • Sunday morning Prayer Partners are available for personal, confidential requests after each service.

Should you be led to use your gift of prayer with us, please contact the church office at 714-846-6641 or [email protected].

In Loving Memory

Honoring Audi Stanton as a part of the community of St. Peter's is important. The memorial service won't be traditional, but we will incorporate singing, scripture reading, prayer, artwork display, and memories. We will end the service with more singing and a blessing to go forth into the world. The service will be held on Sunday, July 16, at 10:15 AM in the Sanctuary following the regular 9 o'clock service.

For those who had the privilege of having Audi as their art teacher, please bring with you on July 16 your paintings to display. What a wonderful tribute it will be.

Images of the Spirit

9:30 -11:00 AM Room C/D

Many people struggle to picture the Holy Spirit as a person, often imagining a vague cloud or impersonal force. However, the Bible gives us strong word pictures of the Spirit as wind, fire, a counselor, and anointing oil, among others. By studying these descriptions, we can gain a clearer understanding of the Holy Spirit and even develop a real relationship with him. In this eight-session LifeGuide® Bible Study by Dale and Sandy Larsen, you will find that your mental picture of the Spirit comes into focus. And even better, you will find that you can have a real relationship with the third person of the Trinity as you experience the power, comfort, and gifts that flow out from the Spirit. All are welcome.

A Place to Call Home

We have been so blessed to support our sponsored Ukrainian family and have learned so much about how we come alongside those that are leaving a war-torn country to seek safety for their family. As we have helped the family navigate the immigration and social services process, we have learned that finding housing has been a significant challenge. Our family has safe housing due to all your generosity and prayers.

God continues to bring more Ukrainian families to our church, and we are welcoming them and sharing what we have learned. We have one young Mom with her eight-year-old daughter that is in need of a host family that would offer them a place to stay in their home or another housing option until she can gain employment in the hospitality industry and afford rent on her own.

If you have an extra room in your home and can offer this young family a place to stay or know of another housing option, please talk to Lisa Farmer or Cheryl Sampson. You can also send an email to [email protected].
