St. Philip’s Leadership Opposes Cumberland St. Development in Letter to Mayor, City Council, Others
|
|
Rendering by Bello Garris Architects of the 21-unit Cumberland St. condominium project scheduled to break ground later this year.
Landmark Partners, a Baltimore development company, aims to soon begin the first phase of construction on a four-story condominium project on Cumberland Street between Church and State Streets, directly across the street from St. Philip’s Parish House.
“This will be a very contemporary 4-story condo complex,” the Rev. Brian McGreevy wrote in a letter to the St. Philip’s vestry last week. “The first we heard of it was through a newspaper article in the Post and Courier. It has already received preliminary [Board of Architectural Review] approval.”
With the approval of the wardens and vestry, the St. Philip’s leadership sent a letter in opposition to the project to Mayor John Tecklenburg; City Councilman Mike Seekings; City of Charleston Board of Architectural Review Chair John Robinson; City of Charleston Director of Planning, Preservation, and Sustainability Robert Summerfield; the Historic Charleston Foundation; and the Preservation Society of Charleston.

Will You Speak Up?
Letters Strongly Encouraged!
|
|
Our best chance for success is to have as many parishioners and neighbors as possible write to the mayor, members of City Council, and the Board of Architectural Review. Please add your voice!

Lowcountry Pregnancy Center Grateful for St. Philip’s Support
|
|
The St. Philip’s Home Missions team recently answered a call to assist with the current needs of ministry partner Lowcountry Pregnancy Center (LPC). These needs included diapers, baby clothing, and baby formula, which LPC was able to purchase with monetary support from St. Philip’s.
LPC was filled with gratitude for our gift, as stated in the following thank-you note, which the Home Missions Team wanted to share with each of you to highlight just some of the fruit of your support and prayers for all of the Home Missions ministry partners.
Dear Friends at St. Philip’s,
We are in receipt of your gift to LPC and the families we serve. With rising costs and scarce supply of formula, we are seeing more clients than ever before. This donation will go a long way to bringing hope, help and healing to moms and dads throughout the Lowcountry.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for this blessing. May you all be blessed ten-fold for the blessing you are to others.
Sincerely,
Deb Ohlendorf (LPC Director of Development)
and LPC Staff

Workouts Continue Despite High Temps
|
|
Even though programming at St. Philip's slows down during the summer, our staff members can't just rest on their laurels until Rally Sunday. It's important to stay in tip-top physical shape lest we risk getting overwhelmed by the fall workload.
As the temperature outside crept towards 90° following staff meeting yesterday morning, sexton Ben Singleton and his young protegé, sexton-in-training Cecilia Walchesky, ran laps in the air-conditioned parlor. The countdown to Rally Sunday is on (45 days!), and you can count on our sexton team to be READY.
If you follow St. Philip's on Facebook or Instagram, then you already knew what Ben and Cecilia were up to yesterday. If you don't follow St. Philip's...why not? Take a minute now to get connected so that you will always be among the first to hear about upcoming events, schedule changes, and church office shenanigans.
