Let Your Light Shine!
Join Us as We Seek to Reach Our Campaign Goal
Now is the time for all of our parish family to come together with every gift pledge, large or small, as we celebrate God's work here at St. Philip's and prepare for future ministry. Whether it's a few dollars from a child's lemonade stand or a more substantial gift, every person in our parish family matters, and we want everyone to be part of this generational opportunity to shine the light. If you haven't yet pledged, now is the time--as the old song says, "This little light of mine; I'm going to let it shine!" We need all those lights together to shine brightly for the Gospel!
Some may ask the question, how can restoring buildings increase our ministry? Our facilities enable us to be a place of worship, teaching, and fellowship. As Ephesians 4:12 instructs us, we are “to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ.” We packed the Parish Hall for the special Rector’s Forum on the Israel/Palestine conflict on October 15, but just this past Sunday, when we returned to the Gospel of John, we were still blessed with hundreds in attendance. That is a regular occurrence. The Parish Hall, the second-floor meeting room in the Parish House, is a direct result of our last capital campaign, the 5th Century Campaign. Before that effort, we did not have the space or place to conduct our studies. This space is a reminder that we are all beneficiaries of the generosity and commitment of those twenty-five years ago. Please pay it forward for our future generations.
Gratefully,
Karen Phillips and Maybank Hagood

St. Philippians Nourish Citadel Cadets
During Last Week’s Meal Ministry
by Gantt Folline, Home Missions Team
On Monday, October 16, St. Philippians served supper to approximately 135 Citadel cadets prior to their evening chapel service. Along with the great cadet turnout, we had an excellent response to our call for volunteers from St. Philip’s, and our large group experienced great family fellowship during our ministry of presence.
Chef Connie prepared an amazing supper, and all of the food was consumed by hungry cadets. It was a blessing to witness our growing St. Philip’s family in service, to celebrate the ceremonious lowering of the colors and United States flag on campus Monday evening, and most of all the witness to such amazing fellowship and service Monday night. New friendships were established between church members and many hands and witnesses made for a great evening. We truly are blessed.

St. Philip’s Music Team Blesses Tourists and Parishioners With a Pop-Up Concert
Tourists and parishioners piled into the narthex on Thursday, October 19, to enjoy a special “pop-up” concert given by the St. Philip’s music team. The space lent itself beautifully to an intimate performance of Baroque music that included pieces by Jean-Baptiste Loeillet, G.F. Handel, and Jean-Philippe Rameau. Children’s choir director Zippy Hood, who played her oboe, noted that the team was able to speak to the audience between pieces, educating them on the composers of the Baroque period and the development of music from that time, as well as the instruments the team was playing––oboe, violin, and harpsichord––which were used heavily in Baroque repertoire. One additional tidbit was that one of the pieces, Loeillet’s Sonata Trio, was written for two flutes with accompaniment, but it worked perfectly for the range of the oboe and violin. Our team has more of these pop-up concerts in the works––stay tuned!
Above: With most of the chairs in the narthex already taken, audience members got settled in on the floor in front of the Open Door information table as Paul Reese (violin), Chris Walchesky (harpsichord), and Zippy Hood (oboe) prepared to play.

Yes, We're Pretty Sure That's the Actual Saying | |
We always celebrate staff birthdays on Tuesdays at the end of our meetings so that our renditions of "Happy Birthday" are as robust and beautiful as possible (since that's the only time we're all in the building), and so that we can all help out with cake consumption. After all, eating all that cake is quite a chore, but as the saying goes, many mouths/tummies make light work! You're welcome!
It’s a somewhat rare occurrence, though, for us to be singing "Happy Birthday" to an actual birthday boy/girl––but we did it yesterday! And here's your fun fact of the day: Bill and his three brothers all have October birthdays!
If you follow St. Philip's on social media, you already knew about Bill's birthday and probably marked it in your calendar for next year. But if you don't, why don't you take a minute right now to give us a follow so that you, too, can be among the first to hear about schedule changes, special events, and occasionally interesting office happenings?
