We will be offering three services of Penitential Eucharist and Imposition of Ashes; the Rev. Justin C. Hare will be preaching. All three services will be in the church due to the repair work being done in the area of the chapel.

If you worshipped with us on Ash Wednesday in 2020, you might remember hearing the Rev. Marc Boutan talking about a 40-day experiment, modeled after a piece in a Trinity School for Ministry Lenten publication, during which you would set aside time each day during your holy Lent to read a psalm and reflect in a quiet place. We invite you this Lent to try this experiment again (or for the first time)!
St. Paul reminds us, “Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable––if anything is excellent or praiseworthy––think about these things.” (Phil 4:8)
A great way to take stock of our lives, turning from troubles, stresses, and sin to the goodness, presence, and leading of God, is to set aside a few moments of reflection each day in a quiet place. This is often best (whenever possible) at a consistent time of day, such as first thing in the morning, at the end of the day, or even over lunch.
- “I am with you always.” Invite the Holy Spirit of God to be with you and guide your reflections. Read the appointed Psalm for the day.
- Give thanks to the Lord for all the good things in life, all that has happened, all that you have: family, friends, community, his presence, etc. Gratitude is foundational to a healthy relationship with God.
- Look back over the day past, paying attention to emotions, thoughts, and activities which may give clues of the day’s high and low points.
- With God’s grace, resolve and pray to let God forgive, heal, and transform you. Invite him into all of the areas of your life; give thanks, ask his forgiveness, his healing, his help in changing. Seek amendment of life where necessary. You may even want to journal some thoughts or prayers.
- Prayerfully, bring to God the events of the day to come, asking for the grace to walk in faithfulness in his leading and Presence.

Grandparents, There's a Conference Coming Up Just for You!
Southeastern Intentional Grandparenting Conference
April 1-2 ~ St. Paul's Church in Summerville
|

Generations Ministry is excited to announce the first ever Southeastern Intentional Grandparenting Conference, and it will take place right here in the lowcountry––practically in our backyard!
The conference is being held April 1-2 on the campus of St. Paul’s in Summerville. We will explore what the Bible says about the role of grandparents and discover ways to pass our faith in Christ to our children, grandchildren, and future generations. Remember: this includes aunts and uncles and other adults who are influential in these young lives.
Conference presenters are Dr. Larry McCall (director of Walking Like Jesus Ministries, author of Grandparenting with Grace), Cavin Harper (founder of the Christian Grandparenting Network, author of Courageous Grandparenting), and Sherry Schumann (president of Christian Grandparenting Network, author of Prayers that Stir the Hearts of Grandparents). Workshop facilitators include the people who brought Grandcamp to Camp St. Christopher over 12 years ago: Peter Rothermel, Coordinator of Christian Faith Formation for the Anglican Diocese of South Carolina, and Cathy Jacobs of St. Paul's Church Summerville. Also facilitating are Dr. Barbara Boatwright and Dr. Napolean Bradford.
It is imperative that Christian grandparents rally! We must reach the hearts of our grandchildren and share with them the love of Christ. As the Psalmist
writes, we must “tell to the coming generation the glorious deeds of the Lord, and His might, and the wonders He has done” (Psalm 78:4).

Home Missions Team Announces 2022 Ministry Partners
|
|
The mission of the Home Missions Team is to partner with Christian ministries that will give parishioners opportunities to “roll up their sleeves” and get involved. Our goal is for St. Philip’s to support these ministries throughout the year with our prayer, financial, and volunteer support.
The Team recently met for our annual retreat, and we are excited to announce our 2022 ministry partners!

Archbishop Foley Beach to Preach and Speak at St. Philip’s on March 13
Guest preacher at both services and speaker at Rector’s Forum

The Most Reverend Doctor Foley Beach was elected the Archbishop of the Anglican Church in North America on June 22, 2014. He is also the Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of the South, headquartered in a suburb of Atlanta, Georgia. In June of 2018, he was elected by Archbishops from around the world to Chair the Primates Council of the Global Anglican Future Conference, a renewal movement within the Anglican Communion.
Archbishop Beach is a graduate of Georgia State University, the University of the South, and Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. He began his ministry by serving teenagers through Young Life. Prior to serving as archbishop and bishop, he planted and led Holy Cross Anglican Church in Loganville, Georgia.
The Scripture verse that has most guided his ministry is Proverbs 3:5-6: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”
Archbishop Beach can be heard on radio stations in the U.S. and around the world via his teaching ministry, A Word from the Lord, and his One-Minute Message, an evangelism outreach to the unchurched.
He and his wife, Allison, are lifelong Georgians and have two adult children.

Busy, Busy Shrove Tuesday at St. Philip's!
|
|
Tuesdays are always busy at St. Philip's with our weekly staff meeting, clergy meeting, and inSPIRE printing, but yesterday was especially busy! The women's study on prayer, Fervent, met first thing in the morning, and it was Shrove Tuesday, so folks were getting ready for the pancake supper and the Ash Wednesday services. And there was a finance committee meeting and a vestry meeting. And the kind folks fixing our iron gates were hard at work all day. Whew!
So it was the perfect day for our roving smile ambassador, Marshall, to stop by and give us a little burst of serotonin to get us through the workday! Well..."little" might not be the right word. Executive Assistant to the Rector Rachel Murphy looked like she got a lot of serotonin when Marshall wiggled on up to her!
