Worshipping at Home on Palm Sunday?
You can help your household experience Palm Sunday more fully by making your own palm crosses using the video tutorial by St. Philippian Joanna Macmurphy below. And you can remind those in your neighborhood about the beginning of Holy Week by placing a green branch or palm frond on your front door!

Worshipping in Person?
Parking Reminders
Free parking is available for all worship services in both our paved lot on the corner of Cumberland and Church Streets and in the parking garage directly across Cumberland Street from the lot. The parking garage exit gate will sometimes be left open after services; if it is not, you may speak to an attendant or press the “help” button on the ticket box by the gate and explain that you have attended a service at St. Philip’s. Please refrain from double-parking or blocking (even partially) either entrance or exit in the lot, and be sure you are parking in a lined space.
While the City of Charleston is usually lenient on Sunday mornings with the one-hour time limit in the residential parking areas around St. Philip’s, please note that you will receive a ticket if you park in an illegal spot. Be mindful of yellow lines (especially next to driveways), fire hydrants, yellow-painted curbs, etc., and note that the area in the curve directly in front of the church on the right side of the road is a no-parking zone.
Free parking in our paved surface lot and/or garage is available only for and during church services (lot and garage), church activities (lot), or appointments with clergy or staff (lot). At all other times, those parking in the lot and/or garage will be expected to pay the posted rate.

Record Numbers for Team St. Philip's!
94 Walkers ~ Over $7,000 raised in Saturday's Walk for Water
From Jill Settle, team captain: Saturday’s Walk for Water was a wonderful success! The St. Philip’s Team had a significant presence with close to 100 walkers, many of whom walked in person at North Charleston’s Riverfront Park. We experienced the sense of community that many of us have missed so much.
Our team also raised over $7,000. Thank you to everyone who participated, for walking, your generous donations, recruiting efforts, and many prayers. St. Philippians answered the call! It was truly an honor and blessing to be a part of it.

Cultivating a Culture of Caring:
A Note from the Rev. Bill Christian
"Pastoral care is a team effort ..."
I must tell you just how excited I am about my new calling to serve St. Philip’s Church! When Jeff Miller asked me to serve as his assistant for pastoral care, I felt that God was speaking directly through him and giving me the opportunity to engage in an area of ministry that has always been so close to my heart. St. Philip’s Church has always excelled in providing its parishioners with excellent pastoral care; whether that be attending to the needs of those going through one life crisis or another, grieving the loss of a loved one, attending to the sick and needy, the hospitalized, the homebound, those living in retirement centers or nursing homes, or perhaps even facing a terminal illness, our clergy team has always been there to respond to them all.
I love St. Paul’s words to the Galatian Christians: “Bear one another’s burdens and so fulfil the law of Christ.” (Galatians 6:2.) To the church in Thessalonica, he writes, “Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.” (1 Thessalonians 5:11.) When we care for one another as sisters and brothers in Christ, we are indeed bearing (or carrying) one another’s burdens, and we are encouraging one another in order to build one another up. In essence, that is what pastoral care is all about!
Pastoral care is a team effort––it takes all of us, not just the clergy. God’s word instructs us that each one of us is to participate in caring for one another! With that in mind, it’s our strong desire that no one slips through the cracks, so to speak. We need to remember the one that is hurting or missing, someone that we haven’t seen for some time. If we are to do that effectively, I will need to enlist your help.

The Lord Provides:
An Update on Our Sister Church in Haiti
by Suzanne McCord, World Missions Committee
During the past year, the whole world has experienced many struggles and challenges. Never before have we been so united in facing the same unseen enemy yet so separated due to pandemic restrictions. And Haiti was no exception. They too experienced the same uncertainties, but in a very culturally unique way. In March 2020, as the new coronavirus began to spread around the world, Father Jean Madoché Vil, the priest in charge of all 10 of the La Gonâve Haiti Partnership churches and schools, wrote, “We keep in faith and pray so that we are not overwhelmed by this Coronavirus. We are a fragile nation. We do not have the resources to protect and defend ourselves.”
Now, almost one year later, Haiti and La Gonâve are still reeling from the impact of COVID. It has taken its toll with sickness and death, though thankfully not nearly what was feared (even though actual numbers are hard to verify). Schools were closed, the ferry boat quit running, and the fragile supply system to the island was shut down for four grueling months. Unlike here in Charleston, there was no Amazon or pizza deliveries or food pantries!

Sofa or pew? Whether your family is worshipping at home or in person, we have a great new resource for children: My Church Notebook preschool and elementary editions!
Borders and icons in the notebooks are designed with themes relating to either creation or the life of Jesus and His parables. These themes cycle through the book, reminding children of our great Creator or great Savior Jesus as they listen and take notes during the sermon.
You may order these free resources (one book per child while supplies last) for pickup in the church office, or we can ship them to you for $6 (payment link in email confirmation).

"Mere Christianity" with the Rev. Brian McGreevy
Tonight at 7:15 p.m. on Zoom
Mere Christianity began as a series of radio talks during the darkest days of World War II in England. Lewis was asked by the BBC to do the talks because so many people were living in fear and anxiety and were feeling that the world was crumbling around them, that "the wheels had come off the bus." Our culture today is beset with many of those same anxieties, albeit for different reasons. Lewis's broadcast talks were then edited by Lewis and published in book form as Mere Christianity. The book is still remarkably fresh today and serves as an encouragement to the believer, a winsome challenge to the doubter, and an effective apologetic for the unbeliever.

Sexton-In-Training Gains Ground on Salary Negotiations
Do you follow @st.philips.church?
After weeks of salary disputes with financial administrator Juli Garland, sexton-in-training Cecilia Walchesky appeared to be at least temporarily satisfied with her current rate when she collected her paycheck last Wednesday. Her immediate supervisor, sexton Benjamin Singleton, was on hand to help open her paycheck, which was wrapped in cellophane and appeared to be of the "melt-in-your-hand-and-on-your-face" variety.
Rumors that Garland is actually in favor of meeting Walchesky's full demands––and that the true culprit behind her wage garnishment is assistant director of music Chris Walchesky––are as yet unconfirmed.
If you follow St. Philip's on social media, then you already heard the latest development to this story. If you don't follow us, perhaps you should click the buttons below to give us a follow now. You can be among the first to hear about schedule updates, four-legged visitors, and, of course, staff updates such as the one mentioned above. How about it?
