About Choral Evensong

Foyer Group Registration Is Wrapping Up––Sign Up Today!

Looking for a great way to get to know others in the St. Philip’s family? Consider joining a Foyer Group! “Foyer” is a French word meaning “hearthside”––implying the warmth of a close, small group of friends sharing a common friendship. Whether you are longtime St. Philippian or a relative newcomer, we encourage you to participate to help strengthen the bonds of affection in our church family. A Foyer Group will consist of eight to ten persons, married or single, assigned at random, and meeting, on a rotating basis, in each other’s homes once a month for about six months, to share a meal, conversation and fellowship, beginning in the fall and spring. You do not have to be a good cook or have a large home to participate! These are strictly social evenings and the keynote is simplicity. There is no agenda, other than having dinner and fellowship for a few hours.

St. Philip’s Meets Blood Drive Appointment Goal

St. Philip’s blood drives continue to be well-attended and fruitful enough to earn us Premier Blood Partner status with the Red Cross.

Our parishioners, friends, and neighbors helped us reach the Home Missions Team’s goal of 45 appointments towards the end of last week. Stay tuned to find out how many units of blood we were able to collect––each unit can save up to three lives!

Water is Life

by Martha Vetter, World Missions Committee

In Rwanda, there is a saying that some of you may have heard: Water Is Life. In the Bible, water symbolizes a multitude of spiritual themes, including repentance, salvation, God’s provision, and service. If you were to undertake a thematic study of water in the Bible, it’d be difficult to exhaust all of your resources.

One of Us Is Actually 29

While it's not unusual for the staff of St. Philip's to celebrate more than one birthday at a staff meeting, there is just one Tuesday a year that we celebrate three that all fall on the same day: September 24.

Yes, Chisolm Leonard, Dorothy Lancaster, and your faithful inSPIRE/eSPIRE editor were all born on September 24 in 1993 (wait ... are you doubting that we all just turned 30??), so we get to celebrate together on that Tuesday closest to our day, awkwardly half-singing to each other during "Happy Birthday" while stealing glances towards the Oreo cheesecake waiting impatiently to be divvied up (yes, cheesecakes enjoy serving their purpose). Of course, if you follow St. Philip's on social media, the birthday buddy celebration is old news. But if you don't, why don't you take a minute right now to give us a follow so that you, too, can be among the first to hear about schedule changes, special events, and occasionally interesting office happenings?

Sunday's Readings

Collect for Sunday:

O Lord, who hast taught us that all our doings without charity are nothing worth: Send thine Holy Ghost and pour into our hearts that most excellent gift of charity, the very bond of peace and of all virtues, without which whosoever liveth is counted dead before thee; grant this for the sake of Jesus Christ thy Son our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity of the same Holy Ghost, ever one God, world without end. Amen.

Readings for Sunday:

  • Philippians 2:1–13
  • Psalm 25:1–14
  • Matthew 7:1-5
