Tea Room 2022 in Full Swing!
11:30 a.m.–2:00 p.m. daily through Friday
Before Monday, we hadn’t had a Tea Room opening day since April 29, 2019. What a joy it was to see the Parish House abuzz with activity on Monday morning as volunteers readied the kitchen, dining areas, dessert table, hostess stands, cashier tables, and gift shop for our guests!
Just before opening time, the Rev. Jeff Miller addressed the volunteers, commissioning them to show hospitality to strangers as we are instructed to do in Hebrews 13:2: “Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.”
Before he gave the blessing, our rector said, “Above all, I just pray that the Holy Spirit settles himself upon us and just gives us ... a great time to be together, enjoy each other’s company, and bless other people. There’s no greater opportunity in the world than to share the Good News of Jesus Christ in this day and age.”

Dining room help needed––no experience necessary!
Diners are also needed! Please join us for lunch and encourage family, friends, and coworkers to join us, too!

Calling All Bakers:
Huguenot Torte and Other Desserts Request!
Everybody loves Huguenot Torte, and we're having a difficult time keeping it available for our Tea Room customers––could you help out by bringing some by today, tomorrow, or Friday? Other desserts are also welcome and needed!

Discover Your Spiritual Gifts
Friday, May 13 (7:00-9:00 p.m.)
Saturday, May 14 (9:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.)
Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. ––1 Corinthians 12:4-7
God has given you (yes, you!) gifts for ministry, and there is no greater joy than discovering these gifts and finding ways to use them in the service of Christ. Join Brian McGreevy, Frenchie Richards, and Andrew O’Dell for a spiritual gifts workshop on May 13 and 14. Lunch will be provided on Saturday.

Welcoming Visitors Daily During Tea Room Week
Open Door Ministry Needs YOU!
The Open Door Ministry has been opening the sanctuary to visitors one day a week for the past few months, and they came together to provide volunteers daily during Tea Room week––Friday, May 6, will mark the first time the sanctuary has been open five days in a row since before the pandemic. The goal is to continue to open the sanctuary five days a week from now on.
We need volunteers to make this happen! You will welcome visitors warmly, offer prayer guides and other literature, and chat with them. We now have displays loaded with information about our history, and our experienced docents will also give you everything you need to be able to respond to questions.
Please call or text Elizabeth Bowles at (843) 364-0810 as soon as possible to get started. Our goal is to provide two people per shift.

Mission Update: La Gonâve Haiti Partners
by the Rev. Gerry McCord, World Missions Committee
Our sister church, St. Jean Baptiste, along with the other nine churches on the island of La Gonâve in Haiti, are pressing forward with miraculous progress in spite of the lingering pandemic and travel restrictions, tragic political unrest and violence, food and medical insecurities, and severe drought. Truly we have witnessed the power of the Holy Spirit over the past two and half years that shows us much can come from little when we rely on faith, perseverance, and the resilience of our dear brothers and sisters with the current circumstances and conditions.
We continue to pray these current circumstances and conditions will eventually end and civil stability will return to the mainland so that we may once again be able to join our brothers and sisters on La Gonâve with a joyful mission of presence, celebrating St. Jean Baptiste Feast Day week in June of 2023.
Below see the Easter greeting from the Rev. Jean Madoche Vil, our priest in charge of the ten churches, schools, and medial clinic on La Gonâve.

Work Continues on Cemetery Gate
On Monday, May 2, a construction and masonry team set the over 200-year-old cap on the cemetery’s north pillar. The caps were originally set on a laminated stone and mortar neck with a small carbon steel pin. Project superintendent Nathan Youngman of Magee Ratcliff Construction, LLC, with the help of masons Cody James and Roland Long of Up South, LLC, made a new brownstone neck for the cap and installed a 16” stainless steel rod set in a stone epoxy. The team will hand form a new tapered neck portion using a sandstone repair mortar.

When Does the Album Drop?
Yesterday, #1 St. Philip's volunteer Ann Hunley Harrington took on the role of official Tea Room photographer, snapping pictures of desserts, diners, flowers, and volunteers––and the St. Philip's clergy team, who were there to enjoy lunch together following their weekly meeting. Little did Ann know that one of her clergy pictures would make it onto their debut album, St. P's Priests and Praise Music!
Ok, Andrew, Bill, and Justin have not actually formed a band (that we know of), BUT, as Kelsey Lipscomb pointed out in a comment on Facebook, the photograph does look like it belongs on an album cover––and all three in the picture do have musical talents (one of them was playing a Johnny Cash song on his guitar and singing yesterday morning––just sayin'). So we'll try to make it happen ... stay tuned!
If you follow St. Philip's on Facebook and Instagram, you've seen this picture already. And if you don't ... why don't you take a minute to follow us now so that you, too, can be among the first to see fun pictures, hear about upcoming events and schedule changes, and learn about the sometimes unexpected things that happen on our campus?
