The Second Sunday in Lent
| |
Men's Lunch Today at Noon
Join us for our monthly men's lunch! Men of all faiths are welcome and encouraged to attend––BBQ is on the menu today! This month's speaker is Will Kendrick, the College of Charleston representative for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
Will played college baseball before the Lord drew him into full-time ministry, something he had not predicted. Will says, "It's funny how God aligns your heart with His calling. He has been preparing me for this position my entire life, even when I could not see it. I am so excited to be close to athletics while being given the opportunity to share the Gospel with others. The Gospel is so transformative and freeing, and I am ecstatic to be a vessel that God has chosen as He works through my own brokenness to use me to bring lost souls to Him!"

Spiritual Gifts Workshop with Andrew O'Dell Starts Tonight!
Tomorrow: Grandparents@Prayer Drop-In
11:00–11:45 a.m. in the Chapel of the Good Shepherd
| |
Calling All Grandparents!
As grandparents, we desire above all that our grandchildren will grow in their personal relationship with Christ. One of the most effective ways we as grandparents can promote this desire is to spend time praying for them. Our schedules get so busy that without prioritizing prayer time, the hours get filled and none are left for the things we hold most dear.
To help us give this gift of prayer to our grandchildren, the Generations Ministry is beginning Grandparents@Prayer. The first Thursday of each month (September-May) any time between 11:00 a.m. and 11:45 a.m., St. Philip’s Chapel of the Good Shepherd will be open for grandparents to come and spend time quietly and individually praying for their grandchildren. You will be greeted at the door by a Generations Ministry team member and given a handout on prayer resources as well as suggested prayers. There will be a prayer box in the chapel if you wish to submit a written prayer request for our Generations Prayer team to confidentially pray specifically for your grandchild or you as a grandparent. You may also email Scharlene Ringer at fishfripp1@gmail.com or text (423) 827-3050 to have the Generations Prayer Team confidentially pray over your request.
No reservations needed––come and bring another grandparent! Many will be coming as a group and going to the Rector's Bible Study afterwards or eating lunch downtown to enjoy fellowship as well as encourage each other to pray for our grandchildren.
If you have questions or would like to volunteer to be part of the Generations Prayer Ministry, please contact Jane McGreevy 843-793-9832 or janemcgreevy@yahoo.com.

Witnessing to My Younger Self
by John Kerrison
|
On Thursday, February 16, old man John Kerrison (me) got to speak to young man John Kerrison (me too)—well, a thirty-five year younger version of myself. I had the privilege of speaking to a group of Citadel cadets in the Citadel chapter of the Fellowship of Christians Athletes (FCA), which is led by Christy Meadows, the wife of Citadel chaplain Aaron Meadows. FCA is one of St. Philip’s new home mission partners, and my speaking was facilitated by Home Missions Team chair and vestry member Jill Settle.
When Christy contacted me, I recalled a vivid memory of going to FCA meetings in Mark Clark Hall after soccer practice at the Citadel with my best buddy, Scotty Heath. I was longing for something. As I pondered this, Christy said I had an open forum. I asked the Lord to give me a message. He told me to approach it as if I were speaking to myself thirty-five years ago! Well, a lot has happened over thirty-five years in my relationship with Jesus. I have been sifted by Satan, redeemed by Jesus, and engaged in His real-time, spirit-indwelling training ever since, all in mission to spread the awesome news of God’s salvation for us. The message that came to me was to implore them to learn to love God’s Word. I see this in myself as my longing for God growing through prayer, fellowship, and worship, but all undergirded by Scripture study.
