Activity: Baking Bread
submitted by Jane McGreevy, Generations Ministry Cochair
I love preschoolers and, of course, my favorite preschoolers are my grandchildren, who are five, three, and one and a half. I look forward to when they are old enough to have meaningful conversations about their faith, but it the meantime, being an intentional grandmother means making time to be with them.
Here’s a simple thing I’ve been doing with them lately. It’s really simple, and I want to encourage you to remember that simple is all that is needed! During the pandemic, I started making bread like so many others. We don’t really eat much bread, so I needed somewhere to take my bread. I realized that if I made it into cinnamon bread, my grandchildren loved it! One day when I was kneading it, I thought of my grands and that they would enjoy that step. So, the next time I made bread, I took the dough to their house and let them knead it with me, and I left it to rise overnight at their house. That way they had the fun of first kneading it, then seeing it rise, and finally getting the delicious smell of bread baking in their house in the morning. Now, every time I see them, they ask for more cinnamon bread. They might be too small to do all the steps, but they were able to knead, and they enjoyed it. I look forward to great discussions when they are older on the bread of life, unleavened bread, the effects of yeast, and other biblical images. (Sara Forbes recently made a guest appearance at St. Philip’s Children’s Church, and she taught this lesson using her homemade bread!)

Book Recommendation:
It Will Be Okay: Trusting God Through Fear and Change (Little Seed and Little Fox) by Lysa TerKeurst
submitted by Lynn Land Dayton, Generations Ministry Cochair
I bought this book several years ago when my grandson was six years old. I think it resonated with him as he was entering first grade and needed reassurance that God was right there with him. Two years later, when he was reentering school after an unusual year and a half of remote learning, he asked his mother to find this book again. They read it over and over, especially at bedtime. The author includes a number of Scriptures that are comforting. When I was visiting recently and we read the book, I helped him memorize one of the Scriptures, Philippians 4:6: “Do not be anxious about anything but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.” I told him to say that verse in his heart anytime he needs it!

Foyer Groups Are Coming Back!
Looking for a great way to get to know others in the St. Philip’s family? We are pleased to announce the return of Foyer Groups! “Foyer” is a French word meaning “hearthside”––implying the warmth of a close, small group of friends sharing a common friendship. Whether you are longtime St. Philippian or a relative newcomer, we encourage you to participate to help strengthen the bonds of affection in our church family.
A Foyer Group will consist of eight to ten persons, married or single, assigned at random, and meeting, on a rotating basis, in each other’s homes once a month for about six months, to share a meal, conversation and fellowship, beginning in the fall and spring. These are strictly social evenings and the keynote is simplicity. There is no agenda, other than having dinner and fellowship for a few hours. Generally the host provides the main dish and others bring the rest of the meal (appetizer, salad, side, or dessert). If you’re concerned about accommodating a group in your own home, please sign up and share hosting with another, or consider hosting a casual backyard evening. If you are not a cook, there’s always bread and wine! It is a social evening with a real purpose—to know one another better and build a stronger sense of community in the Body of Christ at St. Philip’s as we practice the gift of hospitality.

What in the World is New Wineskins?
by Suzanne McCord, World Missions Committee
Almost every day we watch, read, or hear about people all around the world who are facing unbelievable challenges like hunger, slavery, war, imprisonment, lack of health care, and more. Do you wish you could talk to someone who has actually been there and really knows what is happening? Do you ever wonder if God may want you to do something about it?
There actually is a place where you find out more: New Wineskins Missionary Network. Their mission is to mobilize Anglicans for authentic, cross-cultural partnership around the world. Every three years, they host the New Wineskins Conference in Black Mountain, NC, and it is attended by missionaries from around the world. This is a unique opportunity to talk to real people who live and work in these dangerous and difficult places, who have firsthand knowledge of what is going on and how God is at work in the midst of it all.

An Invitation from Jeff Miller
Dear St. Philip’s Family,
The death and resurrection of Jesus Christ are at the heart of our faith as Christian people, and one of the most compelling depictions of these events takes place every ten years in Oberammergau, Germany. I invite you to join me June 11 through 20, 2022, on a special "Renaissance and Reformation" pilgrimage to see the world-famous Passion Play and to visit Wittenberg, the place where Martin Luther nailed the ninety-five theses to the door of the castle church and ignited the Protestant Reformation. Our journey will carry us along the famous Danube, the River of Kings, from Budapest to the picturesque Bavarian village of Ettal. We have obtained the very best tickets available for the Passion Play and we will enjoy fellowship, breathtaking views, and magnificent cathedrals and abbeys along the way. This is a unique opportunity since COVID-19 bumped the Passion Play by two years, and it promises to be an inspiring and exciting experience! Mark your calendars and make your reservations!
Faithfully,
Jeff+

This Week's Livestream Information
If you've been reading your eSPIRE or following St. Philip's on social media, you can probably tell that the church office is a bustling place. We've got people working full-time and part-time, we've got volunteers making copies and stuffing envelopes and answering phones, we've got Bible studies, we've got prayer groups, we've got missions meetings and vestry meetings––we've got all sorts of things going on all the time.
So when part-time office helpers like Gus show up to help with printing, check inventory, prune bushes, and keep the Tea Garden squirrel-free, they run into lots of folks eager to dole out the best perks of the job: treats, pets, hugs, pets, and treats!
If you work in an office and are considering bringing on a part-time helper, you should not feel obligated to provide these perks, but they are certainly good for the morale of the entire team––not just your part-time helper!
If you follow St. Philip's on social media, you already knew about all about the hugging, petting, and treat-giving that's been going on. But if this is news to you, why don't you take a minute to click the buttons below and follow us right now so you can be among the first to hear stories like this?
