Another Big Thank You to St. Philip’s
Diaper Drive for Lowcountry Pregnancy Center
The week after we came together as a parish to host the first Tea Room since 2019, we opened our hearts again to donate much-needed diapers and wipes to one of our Home Missions ministry partners, Lowcountry Pregnancy Center.
The church office accepted donations all last week. Sunday was the big push, and volunteers stood by to collect before and after each service. On Monday, Home Missions team members and other volunteers tallied the donations (5,507 diapers and 5,468 wipes!) before loading them up for transport and delivering them to LPC, where they were gratefully accepted. Thank you, St. Philip’s!

Congratulations, Class of 2022!
O Eternal God, bless all schools, colleges, and universities, that they may be lively centers for sound learning, new discovery, and the pursuit of wisdom; and grant that those who teach and those who learn may find you to be the source of all truth; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Through the Narrow Gate
by Bob Kunes, St. Philip’s Vestry and Open Door Ministry
During the week of the 2022 Tea Room, the Open Door Ministry at St. Philip’s kept the sanctuary open for prayer and visits from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day.
On Wednesday, I served as a greeter with Penn Hagood from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. If you had asked me before we began how many visitors I anticipated might come in a day, I probably would have said somewhere between 100 and 150. Boy, was I wrong! We had over 350 visitors that day!
I had the privilege of chatting with a number of them, and one of my routine questions was asking from where they had come. I had two different couples from England; three couples from California; a group of five women traveling together in the form of a small reunion from Florida, Oklahoma City, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania; three couples from Texas; and a group of five guys who were visiting a friend who had bought a house in Hilton Head. I was asked questions about the differences between the Anglican Church and the Episcopal Church and questions about whether or not people still worship in this church! (I told them that not only was there worship, but also that there was tremendous growth as people heard the gospel proclaimed not only on Sundays but during other days of the week as well.)

The Growth of Spiritual Life
I don’t always find it to be so, but this Lent was a challenging season of self-examination that continues. However, in a recent moment of quiet, the Lord impressed upon me a very uplifting analogy between our spiritual lives and the physical pattern of conception, pregnancy, and birth.
First there is an encounter we know has taken place (our conversion). Yet we are not immediately aware of the impact of it. In time, we begin to notice changes that indicate there is a new life growing within us (the Holy Spirit).
These changes are subtle at first but increase as time goes by. Our desires begin to change. We are no longer living for ourselves alone. There is another person to consider when making choices, whose well-being we do not want to bring to harm. We take better care of ourselves by eating a healthy diet, exercising, and resting (Bible reading and study, prayer, and listening). We consult with a doctor to make sure that our growth is going in the right direction (fellowship, corporate worship, spiritual direction). We prepare space in our home and learn about how to nurture this other life (setting aside time for the spiritual disciplines). Finally, this presence becomes so profound in us that we must allow it to manifest itself into the world. It has taken on a will of its own and we cannot hold it back (evangelism).

Taste Testers Give the Ok at Final Canterbury Choir Rehearsal
Our youngest choristers received a special treat during their final rehearsal two weeks ago, so the music department of course had to send off the older choristers with an equally cool treat at their final rehearsal last week. Older choristers are more difficult to photograph, however, so we don't have any pictures of actual choristers, but we do have pictures of the two brave souls who offered to taste test the treats. Thank you, Cecilia Walchesky and Anna Sams York!
The Canterbury Choir was rehearsing ahead of the service of choral evensong last Sunday. If you missed it or want to experience it again, take a listen at the link below!

See You in the Fall, Marshall!
Last Wednesday, roving smile ambassador Marshall stopped by the church office for one more round of pets and smiles and smiles and pets before making his way north, where he will be stationed for several months. Marshall is a very experienced smile ambassador now, and he knew just when to come by to maximize the smiles––when the inSPIRE ladies would be there! He and Shirley, who just may be his #1 fan, got a few quality minutes in together before she went to work preparing the inSPIRE for mailing––and then he immediately went to make sure that Ann Hunley Harrington had a big smile on her face before she got to work making copies for children's ministry and helping print the inSPIRE envelopes.
If you follow St. Philip's on Facebook and Instagram, you already knew Marshall would be leaving us for a while. If you don't follow us ... why not? Take a minute to follow us now so that you, too, can be among the first to see fun pictures, hear about upcoming events and schedule changes, and learn about the curious things that sometimes happen on our campus.
