Update from the Shine the Light
Campaign Co-Chairs
Neighborhood Gatherings Coming Soon!
We continue to be blessed by the generosity and support of our parishioners with our Shine the Light Campaign. Through September 30, we have pledges and contributions that amount to $12.6 million. Our goal is $20.5 million, and we are now at 61.6% of the goal. Since April 30, our official kickoff of the campaign, we have increased our pledges and contributions by $2.6 million.
Equally as important are the participation results. We currently have 191 parishioners with pledges and contributions, representing both families and individuals. Our goal is 100% participation in this generational effort to renovate and restore our church properties, as well as invest in future ministry opportunities. If you consider the total number of active member families/individuals, our current participation results amount to 29.4%.
Within the next week, we will announce a number of neighborhood gatherings happening between mid-October and Thanksgiving. Please be on the lookout to learn about the dates and the locations of these events. We will also have a table set up after this Sunday’s church services to answer questions and provide information. Please prayerfully consider your pledge to this effort.
Gratefully,
Karen Phillips and Maybank Hagood

Hope to Home Drive and Workday
The Hope to Home (H2H) furniture and home goods drive on October 1 demonstrated how seriously St. Philippians take the expression “Blessed to be a Blessing.” In addition to the items donated by our church members on that day, Hope to Home is still receiving furniture from online submissions of large-item donations from our parishioners. There were so many home goods donations that the volunteers on the October 7 H2H Workday didn’t have time to unpack them all before our workday ended––what a blessing! Thirty-eight books (Bibles, children’s Bible’s, and Jesus Calling books) were also donated by our church members. A huge thank you to all who donated!
The H2H workday this past Saturday, October 7, was very well-attended with 27 volunteers. Youth minister David Gilbert brought many youth and their parents, who volunteered to go on deliveries to distribute the furniture, home goods, and Bibles as well as pray with the families.
“It was so heartwarming to see the reactions of the people after we had brought in the couch or a bed,” said youth volunteer Penny Galván. “It was a great feeling to know that they won’t have to sleep on the ground anymore. It is also such a good reminder of how richly blessed we are and to be grateful for the many gifts God has given us.”

Standing Where They Stood
A Letter from Nancy Staley of Bolivia, NC
On Thursday, September 28, Nancy Staley and her husband, Fred, visited St. Philip’s in hopes of recreating her parents’ wedding photos from 1951. Alice Smith, our parish receptionist, happily obliged and took their photos.
Alice,
What a joy to visit St. Philip’s church where my parents married! Thank you very much for helping make that possible. If walls could talk, I’m sure they would tell of Ruth and Roy’s happy day on August 4, 1951. My daddy was still serving in the Navy and boarded a ship out of Charleston several days later. They were married for 62 years until my mom’s death. I was blessed with wonderful parents and miss them every day. Standing where they stood, I could feel their love and laughter as they began a long, sweet life together.
Grace and blessings!
Nancy Staley

Calling all Crafters!
Do you have a special talent for crafts that you could teach easily to our members to make and sell at the Tea Room gift shop? Think jewelry, ornaments, wreaths ... really anything! Our hope is to have several evenings for the women of the church to come together in fellowship and fun while stocking our gift shop.
Contact Caroline Fitzgerald at (843) 696-5843 if you are interested in filling this need!

What Did We Do Before YouTube? | |
Wednesdays are long days at St. Philip's, and they can seem especially long if you're still at an age you can show by holding up your fingers––and you started your day off with school and followed it up with choir, playground time, a service of Holy Eucharist, and all-you-can eat creamy curry chicken...and then it's not bedtime––it's time for The Last Battle with the Rev. Brian McGreevy!
No one could fault you for leaning your head against your mom's shoulder...or maybe laying it on her lap...or maybe stretching completely out across three chairs. It's all good, because you know what? It'll be on YouTube, and you can watch it tomorrow on your own time when (maybe) you haven't had quite such a full day.
If you follow St. Philip's on social media, you already knew about our snoozing C.S. Lewis fan. But if you don't, why don't you take a minute right now to give us a follow so that you, too, can be among the first to hear about schedule changes, special events, and St. Philippian somnolence?
