Sunday School Registration is Open
Nursery through 12th grade, including Youth Confirmation
|
|
Registration for all children and youth Sunday School opportunities, from nursery through 12th grade, is now open! Parents, please take a moment to fill out an online registration form for the 2021-2022 Sunday School year and save yourself some precious time on the morning of Rally Sunday (September 12). Classroom locations will be emailed out prior to Rally Sunday, September 12th. If you are interested in helping with Children’s Ministry there is an option for that, too.
We are so thankful to be able to offer Sunday School again this fall!! It will be wonderful to have the young people back on the church campus, learning together and having the opportunity to have fellowship again. Plan to bring your children while you take part in one of our amazing adult offerings as well.
If you have a 7th or 8th grader interested in signing up for our Confirmation class taught by Al “Gator” Phillips, this is the place to register. We need a little extra information for Confirmation, so give yourself an extra 10 minutes to fill out a follow-up form that will be sent via a link in your confirmation email. This is such an important class for middle schoolers to take. Once they go through the class the decision to be confirmed will be up to them. Classroom locations will be emailed out prior to Rally Sunday, September 12th.

It Takes a Congregation!
by Elizabeth Bowles
|
|
If you take a moment each week to look in the back of your service leaflet, you will notice that there are many moving parts that must work together to make each service run smoothly. A few of these involve lectors, ushers, greeters, flower guild, acolytes and our incredible Clergy and Staff. Not the least of these is our incredible Altar Guild members, who work in teams of two each week. Since we have 2 services each Sunday, this involves at least 4 people each week. We need more volunteers to help with this important job of preparing the Lord’s Table each week. Please join us.
I would also ask that you begin to think about volunteering with the Open Door Committee. Behind the scenes, this ministry is being revamped with some exciting new changes coming soon, and we’d love for you to be a part of it. This is a wonderful opportunity to share the beauty of St. Philip’s with visitors from all around the world as well as sharing God’s word.
What incredible opportunities to serve as missionaries right here at home! Please call me and join one of these amazing volunteer teams.

Generations Ministry Summer Update
by Lynn Dayton, Generations Ministry
|
|
Happy mid-summer from your Generations Committee! I hope that we are all enjoying a change of pace and some special times with our grandchildren! Generations’ mission is to encourage one another to be intentional about sharing Christ with the next generation, especially those God has entrusted to us as our grandchildren. I am happy to report that Jane McGreevy is co-chair for Generations. Our other members are Suzanne McCord, Noel and Bob Kunes, Dorothy Lancaster, Brian McGreevy and Peter Rothermel.
I had the privilege of attending Grandcamp at Camp St. Christopher with two of my granddaughters - Rosie (9) and Lydia (7) in June. This year’s theme was Family Reunion. It was 4 1/2 days of faith sharing (Grandbits), family devotions, scripture memory, singing, crafts, mud pit (a camp tradition), swimming, campfire on the beach, and memories and closeness that are precious! Preparing for the week challenged me to write my faith story - when and how I asked Jesus into my heart; and how my grandparents impacted me with their faith and in other ways. I made a photo album of our family, including our ancestors, and told my granddaughters stories from their heritage.
Another special time this summer was our family beach week - 17 strong, including my almost 94-year-old mother Adelaide. The children’s ages range from 7 to 17.

Ministry Opportunity in the Church Office
Monday, August 9 through Tuesday, August 17
|
|
The church staff team has a particular need for front desk volunteers Monday, August 9, through Tuesday, August 17, to facilitate some much-deserved time away. We’ve set up coverage openings for morning and afternoon slots, but even a couple of hours of your presence would be a huge blessing! Duties involve greeting visitors and answering the phone with the spirit of Christian hospitality (and no worries, we’ll walk you through the phone steps). Questions? Email Felicia Lescow or call the church office (843) 722-7734.

There's Still Time to
Register for Choir Camp!
For rising 1st–12th-graders
Tuesday, August 3–Friday, August 6
10:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m. in the choir room
|
|
Parents, would you like your children to learn:
-
how to read music (identify the notes of the treble and bass clefs, understand rhythm and musical terms, how to follow a music score, and so much more)?
-
how to sing properly with a good tone and proper posture (and how to keep one’s voice for life)?
- how to be an integral part of a choir?
If the answer to any of the above questions is YES, then you should register your child(ren) for music camp today! Campers will also learn about different musical instruments, why choirs and singing in church are important, and how to have fun with music. Plus, campers will enjoy earning credits toward a Royal School of Church Music medal, taking a field trip to the church to learn about St. Philip’s architecture and history, and making new friends. Those who will be joining one of St. Philip’s children’s choirs in the fall will get a great introduction to the program, and returning singers will get a warm welcome back. Register now at the link below!

South Carolina Emergency Management Division has put together a comprehensive guide to show you how to prepare for an emergency and what to do when one is upon you. Take some time to look it over right now and take the steps necessary to keep you and your loved ones safe.
