I’ll Have What HE Is Having!
by David L. Gilbert, St. Philip’s Youth Minister
|
|
Discipleship starts in the home and with weekly attendance to the Church’s sacramental life! If you want your kids to follow Jesus, then you and your spouse had better be the ones to lead the way. After that, in her wisdom, the Church guides families to Sunday School, VBS, and Youth Group! The Bride of Christ teaches, molds, and forms the patterns of life that become the firm foundation for a journey of discipleship that will last a lifetime. Confirmation is not a singular moment in our lives but a daily reminder to pick up your cross and follow Jesus.

Letter from the Rector Regarding SC Supreme Court Decision
Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. — Romans 12:12
|
|
April 20, 2022
Dear St. Philip’s Parish Family,
Earlier this morning, the Supreme Court of South Carolina issued a ruling in the lawsuit involving the Anglican Diocese of South Carolina and its parishes (ruling linked below). We are grateful to report that the Court ruled that St. Philip’s is the owner of all of its real and personal property and that the Episcopal Church (TEC) has no claim whatsoever to our parish. Thus, we are free to pursue the Gospel mission to which God has called us.
However, the Supreme Court reversed Judge Dickson in regard to some of the other parishes. The Diocesan legal team and the legal teams for the various parishes are analyzing the opinion and evaluating further potential actions. We are deeply grateful for and mindful of the blessings God has poured out on St. Philip’s, and we stand ready to see how we can best come alongside our brothers and sisters in the Diocese.

Let Us Welcome the Newly Baptized!
|
On Thursday, April 21, on Folly Beach, the Rev. Andrew O’Dell baptized Will Cammer in the name of the Trinity.
Heavenly Father, we thank you that by water and the Holy Spirit you have bestowed upon this your servant the forgiveness of sin, and have raised him to the new life of grace. Sustain him, O Lord, in your Holy Spirit. Give him an inquiring and discerning heart, the courage to will and to persevere, a spirit to know and to love you, and the gift of joy and wonder in all your works. Amen.

Volunteers Needed: Our Doors Are Open!
|
|
In conjunction with the opening of the St. Philip’s Tea Room (May 2–6), we would like to begin keeping the church open every day for visitors. We are looking for a few volunteers to welcome them warmly, offer prayer guides and other literature, and chat with them.
“What kind of church is this?”
“Is this a museum?”
“This church is more beautiful than any I have ever seen in Europe.”
“I felt the presence of the Lord when I entered.”
These are just some of the many comments that Open Door volunteers (aka Church Mice) have received––we hear a lot of similar questions, and we will guide you and train you so that you will be comfortable responding to any of them!
Open Door Shifts:
Monday-Thursday
10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Friday
10:00 a.m. to noon
We are working on the schedule now, so please call or text Elizabeth Bowles at (843) 364-0810 as soon as possible to have your name added. Our goal is to provide two people per shift.

What's Wrong With This Picture?
|
|
|
There have been some somewhat strange goings-on at St. Philip's the past few days: seems like some folks are showing up in places they don't quite belong.
Take, for example, the nice picture of youth minister David Gilbert with some of the newly confirmed youths and older youth-groupers on Confirmation Day ... and a random photobomber.
Except ... that's Bishop Edgar! Who better to photobomb some confirmands and their mentors than the bishop himself? And as for sweet Abby waiting patiently for her person to come back from dropping her smaller person off at preschool ... well, perhaps she's a more capable driver than other dogs we know––we shouldn't assume that she doesn't belong in the driver's seat!
And then of course there's Marshall, our roving smile ambassador, who will always be in the right place at the right time, because people (and dogs) can always use a smile!
|
|
If you follow St. Philip's on Facebook and Instagram, then you've probably seen these pictures already. And if you don't ... why not? Take a minute to follow us now so that you, too, can be among the first to hear about upcoming events, schedule changes, and the sometimes unexpected things that happen on our campus.
